the presence of extra-terrestrials and mass panic

You elude to mass panic. Why would there be mass panic?
I don't think there would be

Maybe some people would panic but I don't think mass panic would break out

But it is often said that it would and I think that's mistaken

For an alien species to exist, and to visit the Earth from somewhere else in the universe, they would have to be a far more advanced intelligence than we are. And the realization of this would drive many humans to react in wildly conflicting, confusing, and destructive ways. Some of us would want to destroy the "threat" immediately. Some of us would want to exploit it for our own benefit if at all possible. Some of us would want to 'worship' it to try and gain influence or security for themselves in that way. Some would want to run away and hide from it.

As we have seen with our recent election, and in many other instances, the truth is not of any great concern to most people. So a whole lot of us either would believe it or refuse to believe it regardless of the truth of it, and depending on whether or not we wanted to. Or whether or not it benefits us to believe it or not to.

Some say that one of the reasons for governments not telling everyone about the presence of extra-terrestrials on this planet is that such a revelation would cause mass panic

(assuming there is such a presence but I think it is possible)

Would it though????

I don't think it would

The media has been softening us up for decades, anyway

Intelligent life on other planets is hardly a far-out radical notion, the idea is old hat

And even if it did cause mass panic I don't think it would last forever, it would calm down, people cannot be in a state of panic indefinitely, they would eventually snap out of it

It may make people re-think their religions though......

However: if the truth makes people re-think their religions then how is that bad??????

If your religion would be destroyed by knowing about aliens then maybe it would be good for it to be destroyed??????

Personally it wouldn't so much as dent my own beliefs

But whether being known by extra-terrestrials is good or bad is of course a different question, but they haven't wiped us out yet, which I think is promising

Anyway, there very well may not be any anyway..........
Don’t think we’ll be seeing aliens anytime soon. Interstellar travel is largely infeasible.

Unless they are not aliens from another planet/star system

What if they are inter-dimensional beings?

They don't have to be spacemen
