the creatures except during filming. This maintained
their scariness.
Remember....this was pre-CGI. Those things
actually existed in real world representation.

Yup. That's why I assume it had to scary. In one behind the scenes thingy, showing the creature lunging down to grab I don't remember who it was and then disappearing into the ceiling looked like it would have been tense and terrifying even with ot being a Hollywood set.
A million praises upon Giger for creating the nightmares had by creatures of nightmares.

A scene so great that I forgive the stiffly unnatural
gait of the little alien as it flees.
