I guess it's kind of sad in a way. Reminds me of that episode of "The Brady Bunch" where Peter saves a girl from a shelf falling on her in a toy store and he's hailed as a hero. Turns it out it all goes to his head and he becomes an insufferable little stinker. He gets a $50 cash reward from the local paper for his heroism, and he decides to blow it all on a party for himself. Nobody shows up.
The lesson here is, nobody likes to go to parties for insufferable little stinkers.
