Two announcements then:

1. I love snow.

2. I'm going to bed (I think I might be getting a cold-yuck).

'nite everyone!

You mean it's hard to get it started?

It's 29 degrees here right now. Yikes.

Yes. Sometimes it takes longer than it should. And a few times it wouldn't start at all until my mom or uncle jump-started it. There's ice all over the windshield right now, but I don't have class until 2:00 tomorrow. Maybe it will all melt off before then.

This is really sad and creepy. I was watching something on the True Crime channel...the one that used to called Court TV, I think. It was about a missing person case. The girl was murdered. They finally found out what happened through the friend of the guy who killed her. He said after he stabbed her repeatedly, he said, "Just let it come natural." Like...let the dying come naturally. God, that is so ****** up.

You might need a new battery. Generally they need to be replaced every 4 or 5 years.

I got a new battery 2 or 3 years ago, I think.

Its time may be up. If you take the battery out (it's not that hard;* there are books you can get that will tell you how), you can bring to in to your local auto parts store. Most will have a battery testing machine.

Something else that would help, if you have it, is block heater. If you look under your hood, you may find a cord tucked away with a regular household plug on it - that's the block heater. In cold weather, if you plug it in for a few hours before you leave, it'll make the car easier to start.

*unless your car is stupid like my wife's car; for hers, you take out the battery through the wheel well.

The only book you need is your owner's manual that came with the car, as it will tell you exactly how to change the battery. It's pretty easy, just try to find a new battery with the highest amps that fits your car and it'll last longer next time.

Your manuals cover that? I've never had a car manual that told me much more than how to check the fluids and what tires to buy. Usually, for anything more than that, you need a Haynes or Chilton repair manual.

But there's other stuff that can cause poor starting besides the battery. Getting the battery checked is relatively easy to do and it's usually free, so it's a good first step... but there's no point getting a new battery if the real problem is something else like a battery cable or the alternator.

I'm just going to let my uncle and mom take care of it. (my car that is) I think my uncle knows what he's doing.
Yeah... uncles are good for stuff like that.

My uncle once won a special prize for "least original car" at a classic car show. He had a Triumph Spitfire (I think it was a Spitfire - might've been a TR4) that look perfect from the outside, but when you opened the hood, you saw that he'd replaced the engine with a Chevy V6 and re-wired the whole car negative ground.

He also fit a V8 engine from some sort of MG into another TR4... mainly because another guy in his car club said it couldn't be done.

I don't really know what any of that means...
A Triumph Spitfire is a little classic British sports car:

A TR4 is a similar-looking car made by the same company.

The British have their own weird ways of doing things, so taking the original engine out of one and replacing it with an American engine takes a fair bit of work... more than if you did it to an American car.

And the thing with the V8 engine is just a matter of fitting a really big engine into a really tiny car.
