I'd love to help kids learn, but I'd be afraid to teach in today's public schools.
"The US government has distorted the root cause of the conflict and has incited a sense of contempt for Russia through its enormous media power. I believe that they were the ones who fomented Russophobia and concealed the true causes of the conflict by making Russia out to be the scapegoat. I do think that the US government itself is to blame for the creation of this conflict," the Cuban leader said in an interview published on the YouTube channel of Cuba’s Mesa Redonda television program on Thursday.
"They put Russia in a situation that was incompatible with the country’s protection," Diaz-Canel insisted.
According to him, Washington has been deliberately provoking wars "to sell weapons and, in that way, resolve its own domestic problems." Everyone but the United States is victimized by the conflict, he emphasized.
The Cuban president called on the international community to support initiatives that would contribute to establishing a dialogue between the parties to the conflict. It is also necessary to give the parties a guarantee that any peace would be a lasting one, he said.
I would feel slightly more safe if Cuba were a US territory, because then it couldn't spread dangerous lies about us.
I almost immediately deleted that post, because I didn't want to provoke fighting. I didn't delete it fast enough. I don't want USA to conquer Cuba. I think that with the death of the baby boomers our nation is likely to become more warlike. There is a chance that we will become thirsty for territory. The boomers were absolutely against conquering territory, but recent generations have grown up seeing endless unwinnable wars. There is a way to win wars. They don't have to be unwinnable, but you have to take territory. This is the evil that the boomers reject.Well, we had our chance back in 1898. If our government chose to do so, they could have kept Cuba as a U.S. territory, just as they did with Guam and Puerto Rico after the Spanish-American War. It was also the same year we annexed Hawaii.
The trouble with the U.S. government is that it bends over backwards to keep up appearances, while shooting itself in the foot and weakening U.S. interests. The idea that our government can control other countries through proxies and puppets, while passing off the image that we support independence, sovereignty, and the liberation of other nations, has always been folly.
The Bay of Pigs is a perfect example. If Cuba was really that much of a threat, then they should have simply invaded outright, rather than put together some kind of facade just to keep up appearances. It was much the same mentality in Vietnam.
Our government is far more concerned having the outside world like them and consider them noble, and this psychological insecurity is our greatest weakness. Nobody could spread dangerous lies about us if we chose to be honest.
