The Right to Express an Opinion....

Skanky Old Mongrel!
“The problem with today’s world is that everyone believes they have the right to express their opinion AND have others listen to it.

The correct statement of individual rights is that everyone has the right to an opinion, but crucially, that opinion can be roundly ignored and even made fun of, particularly if it is demonstrably nonsense!”

― Brian Cox

Does Cox make sense to you? Why or why not?

Second paragraph falls flat on its face.
Making fun of, and laughing at others is a form of bullying, and the step between laughing at an opinion, and laughing at the person who holds it, is just too close for comfort.

Prof Cox enjoys working with and the company of comedians, and as we all know some comedians can reach into horrible prejudices, harrassments and victimisations in order to achieve a cheap laugh.

I hope that he has not been too influenced by the bully-comedians.

He makes absolute sense. Speaking as someone whose opinions are absolute garbage on most occasions......people should not have been subjected to them. But they get it anyway.....and I'm subjected to being confronted.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Should we be free to express opinions that others find upsetting?
Should we be free to act on such beliefs?
I suppose such freedom is at the discretion of the person in charge or control of the medium where opinions are expressed. Acting will always be different than speech alone. Then it's a different animal.
