The Simpsons are not Catholic.

A reporter for L'Osservatore Romano claimed Bart and Homer were Catholics.

YouTube - Is Homer Simpson a Catholic?

I thought everybody knew the Simpsons belonged to the Western Branch of American Reform Presbylutheranism. (Lisa's a Buddhist, though.)

Even more amazing is that the Pope watches The Simpsons, & wants them in his flock.
I fear that I might dislike this guy a little less now.

I thought this was a little fishy to begin with, especially when its all they've been talking about on another forum's animated tv section.

I can understand why one Catholic journalist would claim the Simpsons in the Catholic tradition because Bart and Homer converted one time to Catholicism in "The Father, the Son and the Holy Guest Star" I would argue that the Simpsons are still PresbyLutheran with Lisa as a Buddhist.

But in that episode wasn't Homer down on his knees praying to Superman at one point? Or have I crossed episodes again?

No, not in that one. He did get smacked on the head with a yardstick for "prayin' to the condiments," though.

In the end, Bart and Homer didn't go through with their conversion to Catholicism:
