The Simpsons Is Getting More PC

I'm watching the latest episode, & Dr Hibbard's voice is completely different.
And his signature laugh is unrecognizable.
To the internet!
Turns out they're replacing the actors of all black characters with black actors.
People must be what they are in real life?
Carl Carlson will be voiced by a black actor, but not one from Iceland (Carl's home).
Hmmm....
Samurai Jack was about a Japanese guy sent to the future.
Phil LaMarr did a great job voicing him, but he's black....is that wrong too?
And what of Bart Simpson...a boy being voiced by an old woman?

The whole essence of acting is to pretend to be something you're not. I suppose the profession itself must eventually be condemned if this trend continues much further.

Me, I'm still mourning Apu....

From the link (with my underlining)...
Following 20th Television’s recasting announcement last year, Shearer shared his thoughts on the matter, “I have a very simple belief about acting…The job of the actor is to play someone who they’re not.” Going on to say, “I think there’s a conflation between representation, which is important…People from all backgrounds should be represented in the writing and producing ends of the business so they help decide what stories to tell and with what knowledge.”

Actually, the job of the actor is to understand WHO he or she is playing well enough to help the audience understand WHAT they are really saying when they're saying it. (Oh, wait, I'm talking the stage here, not TV. Never mind...)

Oh I assumed they didn’t want the character to be associated with Huxtable anymore. Bill Cosby drama and all that.

I do understand retiring Apu though. I like the character but he is very easily used to bully Indian kids. Saw it happen in school with my own eyes.

It's bad enuf that the writing has suffered since year 2000.
Phil Hartman died, & his characters were written out.
Apu, Manjula, & the octuplets are now erased.
But badly imitated voices for the black characters is necessary?
I never thought I'd see the day, but the show might be on its last legs.

BTW, today's episode was meh.....

In one just for friends play, I was the leader of a tour who made sure everyone got tickets etc. Clearly we needed a real tour leader for my role.

Sadly there are not too many openings for retired computer nerds with an ethnic Jewish background who grew up on the East coast and migrated to California decades ago.

Does this mean they're going to have to find a group of pastel yellow people to play The Simpsons themselves?

There are quite a few that think the show was on its last legs seasons ago and is not metaphorically a zombie of its former self.

Apu was actually one of the few admirable characters on
the show (hard working, learned, a devout Hindu, great
singing voice).
The problem seems to be that if a funny guy with an Indian
accent becomes famous, then kids will be bullied for it.
So, no such characters would be allowed, even if voiced
by ethnically acceptable actors.

Agreed. A crying shame, imo. But this is why we can’t have nice things

Pastel yellow pre-teens for Bart and Lisa...
I just feel bad for the producers of the family Guy if this gets to be a trend.

Where are they going to find a talking dog?

I'm just putting this out there... if they got Billy Connolly to be Groundskeeper Willie, I wouldn't be upset.

The Simpson here have been successful for three decades. I have never seen people complain about certain characters like Luigi or Fat Tony.
Au contraire...they are considered funny characters. Their dubbers make them even funnier.
I miss Ilaria Stagni as Bart. Her voice:)

Political Correctness HAS GONE TOO FAR!

Next, the Simpsons will endorse vegetarianism, perhaps even take a stance against Homophobia!

Once in a while the actors strike for more pay. This sends the message that they can be replaced. I'm making this up.
