The Theory of Evolution is supported by the evidence.

I think he has seen the weakness in his position for a while now. He appears (to me) to be in the process of admitting to himself that he really needs to rethink his position. Once he gets there, the next step is to be able to admit it to himself, and lastly, to the rest of the world.

Big steps to take.

Actually, Was our oldest ancestor a proton-powered rock?

Unfortunately you now need to pay to see the whole article, :(, but I read it when it was still free and it makes a very good point. The processes of abiogenesis were probably similar to the same kind dynamics of natural selection as we associate with living organisms and evolution. They are not two distinct processes as many like to make them out to be.

Any system, no matter how simple, that has the elements of 1) self-replication and 2) change/mutation is going to be subject to natural selection, even if this system is abiotic. The key is the balance between reasonable stability, but some change.

Ohhhh very interesting. Thanks for that, I will try to be less vague when I try to define things from now on.:D I understand that people can get the wrong idea from such things...

To be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge. -Disraeli

Science has no problem dealing with ignorance, because thats one more step toward improving our knowledge. Religion on the other hand has a great tradition of unquestioning dogma. - Brian Shuff

And actually, unquestioning dogma sounds like a lack of imagination, so maybe imagination was the wrong word to use.

To speak of virgin births and turning water in to wine are claims of a scientific nature, and to deny that is a failure of ones understanding. - Brian Shuff

If they find a Christian mistaken in a field which they themselves know well and hear him trying to support his foolish opinion from the Bible, how are they going to believe the Bible on the important matters of faith when they think the Bible is full of falsehoods on facts which they themselves have learnt from experience and the light of reason?
~Saint Augustine

"It is a disgraceful and dangerous thing to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense on topics non-Christians know from reason and experience."
~Saint Augustine

"Reckless and incompetent expounders of Holy Scripture bring untold trouble and sorrow on us all when they are caught in one of their mischievous false opinions and are taken to task by those who are not bound by the authority of the Bible."
~Saint Augustine

"For then, to defend their utterly foolish and obviously untrue statements, they will try to call upon Holy Scripture for proof and even recite from memory many passages which they think support their position, although they understand neither what they say nor the things about which they make assertion."
~Saint Augustine

Exactly, Danmac. And that's why you have nothing to fear from science. Science is about the natural world, and has no bearing on your God.

Danmac: You have a lot of outstanding questions. Would you like to practice your manners and answer a few of them, so we can move the conversation along? Or do you prefer to posture and gesticulate like a fool upon the stage?
