I was wondering if I could get some clarification on what the third eye in Hinduism. Usually when I hear it spoken about I get answers about clairvoyance, auras and other things. These ideas are very new age. So what is the third eye in Hinduism?
LI believe much of that 'stuff' is also in Hinduism, like in the Tirumantiram. Much of Hindu mysticism has been forgotten or covered by the intellectual treatises, or perhaps even translations. So although it is in new age, it's also in old age. Where do we place the tilak?
Anothr example is that Sivachariya priests are not allowed to share much of the esoterics of their worship.
I've never heard of the Tirumantiram or the Tilak before. If you could share some information about them it would be great. I didn't know this stuff was found in Hinduism too.
The Tirumantiram was written by Tirumular, a Tamil Saiva mystic and yogi, and a contemporary to Patanjali. It is full of esoteric references, and quite difficult to understand. Ramakrishna Mission put out a translation ... difficult, as it has to go from Old Tamil to Modern Tamil before going to English. I've never actualy made my way through the whole book.
Tilaks are forehead marks, often said to mark the third eye. Siva's third eye is almost always depicted.
Actually, according to this, He was Patanjali's teacher ... Tirumoolar, the Guru of Patanjali. | Science Of Spirituality Blog on Speakingtree.in I don't think any of this is really well documented.

God designed the human body into his own image/prototype.I'd heard the tenth door was at the top of the head, in the same place where a baby's soft spot is at birth, where bones of the cranium have yet to meld. Of course I probably read false information.
god has form??God designed the human body into his own image/prototype.
The whole universe is His form and human body is prototype of whole universe.god has form??
god has form??
actually, i am fine with all these.and is formless .. depends on which school of Hinduism. Some see it one way, some see it the other, and some see it as both.
OK ..The whole universe is His form and human body is prototype of whole universe.
Like.. there's a formless-space above human-head, Similarly.. there's formless which is Space-less above the universe-head.
As human body exists in the space, thus being Space-less is not possible above the human head / Space.
With this post, Chinu-ji, your days as a maverick here are over..The whole universe is His form and human body is prototype of whole universe.

I know little about third eye. It's also known as Anjana Chakra. It's between our two eyes or forehead. When a person awakes his third eye in this case he is able to predict certain future events, he by just sitting in room can get info from across the world, he can read people mind and some more powers. There are three process of awakening the third eye. First through Asthanga Yoga {from yogasutra}, second is through Hatha Yoga and third is through Tantra.I was wondering if I could get some clarification on what the third eye in Hinduism.
