The ToE and common ancestry of all life forms did not come from looking at the evidence

He did it as an example for us, if you would have stuck with your faith, you could be learning these things also.

Exodus 20:8 "Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work,10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you.11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

only problem. which day did he make holy, for the original judaism thats saturday but for christians its sunday (dont know if islam has one)

so which one did god rest on a make holy becuase if it was one or the othr then millions of people have ****** off god by working on a sabbath. and what if he took a mid-week break say wednesday then you've all been wrong.

come to think of it i could make monday a sabbath for my 'religion' and say i cant work then due to my beliefs. save me getting up early monday mornings :D

In Islam it's Friday. Christianity and Islam both changed the sabbath to differentiate themselves from their parent faith.

god made the sabbath holy. assuming he was talking to the jews (as neither religion was around at the time of exodus) that means he said "don't work on saturday, thats the day i have left for you to rest and contemplate my awesomeness" (bit of a paraphrase)

this means the jews have the holy day and christians and muslims have changed theirs, so now millions of people work on the real sabbath and are disrespecting god after he went to all that effort for them.

Knock, knock, Man of Faith--this thread is supposed to be about evidence, remember?quote]

Yes, if it were not about evidence, but "what we like" instead, creationism could have been abolished right from the start on the grounds that Darwin's beard puts him higher on the coolness scale than Behe Hovind and Ham reach combined. Indeed, aside from genius, Darwin is the man when it comes to cool. :D. Behe, not so much. Although he is an inspiration to liars the world over.

All the famous scientists have the best cool points.

Like, check this guy out.

Yeah.

And then there's Stephen Hawking, who get's mad props for being "The Wheelchair Guy". Not only that, but he's had several kids since he lost control of everything in his body except his face. How, you ask? Because he is awesome. ALS cannot stop Stephen Hawking from making sweet, sweet love.

How cool is this guy?

That depends. Which side is he on? :D

Sorry, I know I'm responsible for derailing here.

To get back to the point - cool or not cool, it's the truth that matters, and evidence always points to the truth. A failure to acknowledge the evidence point to various things, but the truth is not one of them.

He wrote this, which makes me basically gay for him. He does lose a few man-points for all the flowers in the picture, though.

Wow, you know seriously, I never really knew what saga looked like. I just have incredibly fond memories of one of his audiobooks during which I repeatedly blurted "thank you so much for telling me the truth!!!! That makes so much sense!".

He had some TV spots back in the day....Maybe they were on PBS or MPT. I live here in Virginia and would catch them from time to time.

YouTube - Carl Sagan - Cosmos - Drake Equation

When he spoke he kinda sounded like Mr. Smith from the Matrix....:D

I know...I'm letting my geek side peek through.....but he was cool though.

I just realized that not only is Carl Sagan dead, but he's been dead since long before i ever heard his name. I feel like a idiot now.

Well, if MoF comes back and seems to be paying any attention, we'll talk about the geographical distribution of species.

And once again, evidence, the 100% effective YEC repellant, has driven MoF away from the thread.

And there's so much more of it.

I wouldn't mind, if I didn't feel confident that he will pop up somewhere on the net, possibly right here, and assert that there is no evidence for ToE.

I've been away due to illness. Did you catch MoF's claim that he never considers himself wrong because he knows god personally? That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I give up now.

You know, it was interesting to watch him go through a few phases - he started with a confidence couched in utter ignorance of ToE and complete faith in the ID sources as "scientific", I THOUGHT I saw him wobble after a couple dozen pages of hardcore evidence, then he retreated to his "flock" to reaffirm his ridiculous beliefs and came back, balls-out, his confidence now couched in the intention to "destroy" this and "destroy" that entire field of science.

IMO, the reason for this language is that he is "destroying" his own recollection of the evidence and arguments presented in order to protect his faith, and eradicating the entire experience of discussing ToE with relatively informed people from his memory. (Or, more likely, rewriting it with him as the victor rather than a humiliated, ignorant fool).

You can spot the most effective weapons against YEC by keeping track of the points and evidence he COMPLETELY ignored: the stuff that was so threatening to his beliefs that his "destruction" of the experience of reading it was instantaneous. Like, for example, your point that if there are now 5000 + observed species of lizards, and all of them "adapted" from a single pair of "lizards" 4000 years ago, YEC predicts we must see one generation of lizards unable to breed with its parents generation more than once a year.

It's a simple, effective point with an inherent logic even a simpleton like MoF can not deny. Stick with it. :)

Alas, the evidence has effectively repelled him. Unfortunately, I don't believe I extracted his promise to stick around and engage with the evidence before I began. Oddly, I've wasted hours of my life in this exact exercise with YECs.
