The Umbrella Problem: LGBT, LGBTQQI, Or LGBTQQICAAAPPF2K?

You and me both.
The fundamental problem is that we have 2 classes, & that the 2nd is growing....
1) What's traditionally called "normal"
2) Everything else.

If the label for #2 is to be an inventory of alternatives, then it will continually grow.

It'll eventually look like someone found the longest word in a Klingon dictionary.

Naturally, I have a proposal....
#1 = "Norms" (for normal)
#2 = "Abs" (for abnormal)
So far, no one likes my idea (including me).

I assume everyone in this category has amazing abs. :D

I'm definitely an ally, although frighteningly straight and vanilla, but wasn't LGBTQQICAAAPPF2K that experimental film from the '80s with the Phillip Glass soundtrack?

Not sure, but the whole idea is that terms like Queer which means strange, and kink should not be a part of the LGBT umbrella.

I have never seen such exaggerated shortforms anywhere but RF forums and I've spent a fair amount of time around LGBT friendly spaces and I've never seen anything that ridiculous.

I have seen LGBTQ, LGBTQA (ace, not ally) and LGBTQ2S+
The only reasons the groups have changed the term is to make it clear who is welcome in their group and is generally related to who is involved with the organization.

There is zero reason to focus on the issue of Acronym, especially if you aren't actually involved in decision making in these groups.

Also, I consulted a gay co-worker who is aware of this concept and even he thinks the concept of "Queer" shouldn't even be involved. The whole idea of extending the umbrella is ridiculous in his view. I don't think adding ace or ally or anything should denote who is welcomed there are things that can be said without having to say them.

I respectfully disagree. Every group or organization should welcome criticism even if its trivial. Criticism doesn't initially suggest any wrong doing. Criticism can be countered by proper logic and rationality this defending what is being criticism Ed.

Major organizations like religion and states should be criticized. This is just a natural process of checks and balances.

Right, and there is no stop from being too specific. When if I identify with the color orange? I want my identity to be respected, therefore, add the letter! This example, of course, is greatly exaggerated but that is my point.
