No. A disturbance is a change. It does not gave to be a change in energy.
Depends on the specific field: electron, photon, gluon, quark, etc. All are different types of fields with different properties.

Any change, or disturbance, involves the expending of energy.

Let me rephrase: what is the underlying nature of all fields, that qualifies them as a 'field'?

Just a quick aside.

The trouble with science and religion is assumption.

If a man from primitive earth is walking along the beach and comes across a watch it's assumed that man would think the watch had a designer. Not necessarily. It's quite possible the man would think "What a pretty rock, I think it would look cool if I rubbed some **** in my beard and stuck it there."

It's also possible that the man would think "That's not a bad watch. Not as good as the ones on my home planet Rolex V but, not bad at all. . . "

There's no reason why we can't have a sense of humor.

The truthful religion does not do any assumptions, please.
One's assumption is incorrect, please. Right, please?

I can SEE the waves of heat energy arising from the road on a hot day.
No, you can't. What you see is due to differing indices of refrsction in portions of air rising by convection.

Energy is neither a thing nor a substance. It is just shorthand for expressing states of objects.

Waves are what is detected when energy is being expended.

Convection heat waves. I love 'em in my coffee cup.:D

That they depend on position. That's why we have scalar fields, vector fields, spinor fields, etc. All different sorts of fields..depend on positikn.
