I remember the first time I heard this song, in the early 70s. It was later released in a second LP album that was a hit, but this must have been a 45 record version on some obscure label prior to that.

I was in San Francisco. I was on a balcony on some tall dwelling just off the Tenderloin. It came from a distance, not very loud, I never knew exactly from where, someone must have been blasting it full volume but it was from far away, haunting in it's own genre, even if whoever was "blasting" it, yet, it never "blasts"... it travels.

I recognized it again when it became a hit and played on a radio station. One of the greatest of all times.

No Woman No Cry
(Bob Marley - 1974)

I remember
... when we used to sit,
In a government yard
... in Trenchtown,
Observing -
... the hypocrites,
Mingle with the good people we meet...

Good friends we have,
... oh, good friends we have lost,
Along ... the way,
In this great future,
You can't forget your past...
So dry your tears,
... I say

No, woman, no cry ...
No, woman, no cry ...
A little darling,
(Now you) don't shed no tears!
No woman no cry

And, I remember,
... when we used to sit,
In the government yard,
... In Trenchtown,
And then Georgie,
... would make the fire lights!
I (still) see logwood burning,
- through the nights ...
Then we would cook,
... cornmeal porridge, say,
Of which I'll share -
With you!
My feet ...
... is my only carriage,
And so I've got to push on - through ...
(and)
Oh, while I'm gone,
Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's,
gonna be,
all right ...
Everything's,
.. gonna be all right,
Everything's gonna,
... be all right ...
Everything's,
... gonna be all right-a?
Everything's -
Gonna be all right ...
Everything's gonna be all right, yeah,
Everything's gonna be all right...

So no, woman, no cry,
No, woman, no cry,
I say,
O little!
O little darlin'g!
Don't shed no tears...
No woman no cry

No, woman,
... no, woman!
No woman no cry!
No woman no cry!
One more time,
I got to say ...
O little, little darling,
... please don't shed no tears!
No
woman
no
cry

My mom is going to their concert tonight, and she has no idea what she's in for. I'm left wondering if I should warn her about the cowbell cod piece, because I can see her getting really pissed about it and walking out over it.

Some folks are born, made to wave the flag
Ooo, their red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
Ooo, they point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, y'all
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yeah

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no

Yeah, yeah
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer "More! More! More!", y'all

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, one
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no, no, no
