the word God

Friend japaholic,

A bitter, 72-year old ex-docker becomes the ever-compassionate Buddha. A Cypriot minicab driver becomes St Francis of Assissi. The 22-year-old Glaswegian checkout girl is the divine mother. I love everybody. My spirit is free. I am limitless in space, time and matter, simultaneously the planet Neptune, part of the structural support to Vauxhall Bridge. I am your left breast, I am Stepney, I am Peru, I am divine and so are you.

how important is the word 'God' to you? Could you call God by any other name (like spirit, source, creator...etc) without changing your relationship to god?

Im just curious; i love the word god (even if its almost taboo in my social circles!) but i dont need it. perhaps it is common to people who identify as spiritual but not particularly religious? So are religious people attached to the word God? Could you use another name just as easily?

the word 'god' for all its failings, and unfortunate connections, doesnt seem to have any substitute that covers quite so many possibilities. I would like to find a better one - but can only come up with phrases or sentences - not yet an individual word.
The entire historical and worldwide gamut of thought, inspiration, feeling etcetc that is related to the word, including those you mention, is what gives it its enormous and yet indefinable, significance.
:)

There was One. There is One. There will be One. One is All. One is None. You are One. I am One. We are One.

We come one
by FAITHLESS

All the subtle flavours of my life
are become bitter seeds
and poisoned leaves
without you

You represent what's true
I drain the colour from the sky
And turn blue
without you

These arms lack a purpose
Flapping like a humming-bird
I'm nervous 'cause
I'm the left eye
you're the right

Would it not be madness to fight
We come one

In you the song which rights my wrongs
In you the fullness of living
The power to begin again
From right now, in you

We come one

I'm not afraid
never never scared
Worries washed
pressed air
I am the left eye
you're the right
Would it not be madness to fight

We come one

What is the word of God to you? is the real question. Is it the bible? If so, does God contradict himself?
I say that the bible isn't the word of god , and that Christians all around have been confusing it with the true word of God as the bible really means it.
The Good News is the word of God. And it makes sense too when you look at scripture. Take the Acts for instance: chapter 14 look and see how many times you will find the phrase"word of God"
Now, if you don't have a KJV, or a NKJV bible then I don't know whether or not it states "word of God" or "Good News" but the original Greek manuscripts say, "word of God". When you look at its context, you will see how the word of God can't possibly be the Bible. It is that Christ came down to sacrifice himself for our sins. And that is the "word" getting out to people, from God. ;)
If you would like to debate this, "is the bible inerrant debate" thread is kind of empty.

For me the divine is one and the same with the true nature of all things. This nature is essenceless and because of this all things are made manifest.

There is no God but the Genome, and Darwin is his messenger.

Not very. It's a shorthand, though I've come to use it habitually.

Yep. Roth is the proper word for my God-concept.
