The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

A man who lost his son on the ship owned a small hardware store one block from where I grew up, and I remember going with my father to wish him condolences.

BTW, Gordon Lightfoot's best of is one of my favorite cd's.

I remember on the IMDb Titanic board, this question came up a lot. Then there was the part where Rose threw the diamond overboard. That raised a lot of people's hackles.
I have no doubts that part of the film that ended up on the cutting room floor was the ongoing insurance fraud case over that necklace. Investigators were surely on her heels and she jumped on board an research vessel to stay one step ahead. Got to get rid of the evidence in some way. Good luck finding that 2 miles down. How'd she live all those years without income? Insurance fraud money. Do we really believe Billy Zane wouldn't be honest about it? No way. They split the money. It's obvious.
