The Year 1844

"Lightning" could be I think a prophetic reference to the Telegraph and the beginning on the electronic age.. In the Gospel of Luke 17:24 it's clearer maybe where it says: "For as the lightning that lighteneth out of one (part) of heaven shineth upon the other (part) under heaven.."

and the reference to the coming of the Son of Man from the "East" could be from the east from where the Lord spoke it...i.e., east of the Holy Land, i.e., Iraq, Iran (Persia).

Interesting, but I'll bet the farm that not EVERYONE was aware of this event, ie there are tribes people today who do not know about the telegraph, let alone then. Therefore, it can't fulfill Jesus' prophecy.

There are also people who know nothing of Jesus, by that reasoning, Jesus cannot have ever come at all.

"...there are tribes people today who do not know about the telegraph, let alone then. Therefore, it can't fulfill Jesus' prophecy."

Many Christians of the nineteenth cebntury believed they had already reached the entire earth with the name of Jesus..of course Islam recognizes Christ as well and so wherever there are Muslims and Christians and Baha'is the name of Jesus is proclaimed.

"...to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people"

There was a photo recently published in the media of a tribe that was believed to be isolated in the Amazon and recently found but it was later found to be a hoax..to draw attention to the plight of native peoples.

See:

Brazil shows 'uncontacted' Amazon tribe - Science - MSNBC.com

The world has "shrunk" like never before in history and people are becoming united as well through information technology.. If you could find a tribe or people that has been unaffected by the modern era you'd have to do it yourself because no body else has found them as yet!

Are you suggesting that there are no groups of people who have not heard about Jesus?

That's kind of the point...

That has nothing to do with the subject at hand. Jesus will come regardless of whether or not people know about him.

Exactly, and no man knoweth the hour.

However Jesus did make some specific qualifications about when that time would be in the 24 th chapter of the Gospel of Matthew.

One of those conditions was that the Gospel of Christ should be taught to all the nations. That was achieved in the early 1840's by the way.

One should note that "nations" means all the ethnic or political grtoups of people NOT all the individuals within those nations.

So Christ's first promise was fulfilled in 1840-1843.

What was the next promise? It concerned the fulfillment of the Book of Daniel's description of the "abomination of desolation.

Which by calculating the "days" mentioned by Daniel as "years" of 360 days each we have 1843-1844.

The return of the Jews to Jerusalem was also fulfilled by a series of edicts from the Sublime Porte which cleared Israel for settlement by the Jews of the dIaspora.

So, all of the conditions of Christ's return were satisfied more than 160 years ago -- so where is Jesus?

Your right, any moment Jesus should reveal himself to the whole world, but not incognito.

Well, the bab made His announcement in 1844, by 1850 the Islamic authorities had had Him publicly executed for that announcement. By 1853, the government of Persia had publicdly executed as many as 20,000 followers of the Bab and Baha`u'llah was exiled by the Shah of Persia to Baghdad.

In Europe there was a fevered interest in The Bab. The story of His execution appeared in the London Times within ten days of the event. Sarah Bernhardt the great tragic actress of Paris commissioned a play to be wrien so she could star in the role of the Bab (she had a history of performing male roles in great tragedies).

By 1868, Baha`u'llah had declared Himself to be the fulfillment of the Bab's promise (He Whom God Will Make Manifest) and had written letters of announcement to the crowned heads of Europe, the Ottoman Empire and Persia, the elected leaders of the Americas, the priests and pontiffs of Christianity and the Mullaheen of Islam.

So it was hardly incognito.

Today from a single disciple in the B ab's home on May 22nd, 1844 163 years later there are about 7,000,000 Baha`i's around the world. Incognito?

Again Scott, like the Millerite movement and the Jehovah's Witnesses, who tried time and time again to predict the Second Coming and failed miserably. The Bible says that EVERYONE will know when Jesus comes to the world. Jesus also spoke of false prophets that would try to pull this off. Israel was not a nation in the 1800's either, which needed to to happen before Jesus' Second Coming.

One could argue that Pentecost was the Second Coming and it fulfills much if not all prophecy regarding the Second Coming. My only objection to this is the world is not at peace.

The closest thing to your statement is the behavior of the Pharisees who denied Jesus was the Messiah. Jesus fulfilled the prophecies in every way but to the Sanhedrin's satisfaction.

So too the Bab in 1844.

I imagine the Muslims feel the same way concerning Muhammad and the Mormons concerning Joseph Smith and the countless other so-called prophets of God and their followers. But where is the peace that Jesus said that would follow His second coming?

The Kingdom of God has been delivered in a huge packing crate with a big labe that reads:

SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED

And this is how others do it:

But in 1 Thessalonians 5:2 it states that
“for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”

zikr quote:
"So in light of the dedication that people have shown towards that year - as well as the Biblical prophecies themselves foreshadowing the significance of that year - the question I would like to pose is this: What do you believe happened in 1844?"

I can give you a four thousand word essay on the Millerites expalining the factors that led to the movement and the popularity of the group that had nothing to do with the actual date. : )

It SAYS; Popeyesays, but it ain't. Jeremy Mason said that, not I.

So to whom does your question apply?
