I read this is an other thread. And it got me thinking.

No, we humans can not just change the scriptures to our liking, we can't just remove or add to a religious scripture what we "want " it to say.
If we did, it would be a voilation of Gods truth.

It is the humans who would have to change according to the scriptures.

Thoughts?
There are thousands of interpretations and thousands of religions and thousands of laws based on one and not the other.

In my understanding if a prophet speak, you would understand right away their message without any doubt, but of course they would have a higher spiritual wisdom than a person who isn't a prophet. They get their wisdom from God, not from themselves.
I've read some of the stuff supposedly spoken by 'prophets'. Either I'm a total idiot, or their words were full of bubbly egocentric nonsense. I certainly was incapable of understanding the message.

That requires the ability to doublethink. Not everyone can do that. (I can't and most atheists have difficulties with it. It seems to be a special ability of believers.)

Hmm...wasn't aware of that term, but it looks like a colloquial version of cognitive dissonance.
All people experience that, but I suspect our thresholds and mechanisms for dealing with it vary.

Unfortunately in the realm of politics (for example) it is more possible that ever before to curate information sources so as to avoid contrasting information. You can effectively 'select' facts.

In some settings that is possible with religion (and in others less so).

It is the opposite of cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is the psychic stress resulting from a belief not conforming to reality or two believes contradicting. In a state of doublethink you don't feel that stress but accept both as valid.

Seems the same to me. Doublethink appears to describing someone who is able to live in a state of cognitive dissonance for a prolonged period, and that's certainly an interesting topic.
FWIW I don't think it's possible to not feel that stress, but I'd see it as a continuum (where it might be possible to MOSTLY not feel that stress), and there are various reasons that can be the case, mostly centered around invested effort and decisions meaning it becomes more expensive (psychologically) to 'walk it back' than to further accept apparently extreme 'next steps'.

Jonestown was an example used in college to try and demonstrate that principle in an extreme, real world case.

No, it is not all that big. Skand Purana has over 81,000 verses. Bible has 31,102 verses.
OK, the Skanda Purāna is bigger; this isn’t a contest, right?
I didn’t say ‘the’ biggest. Over 31,000 verses is still “a” big book.

i bet there’s been no other book that has suffered more attacks & been argued over, than the Bible has!

And it’s still here.

Because I do not see truth in your words (sorry)

No :) those who are spiritual open and seekers will have a bigger understanding, those who doubt or refuse to hear the truth will still not understand or accept the Prophets words. (In my understanding)

So to sum up:

- if you don't find someone convincing, it's because their words don't have truth and therefore the words aren't from God.

- if someone else isn't convinced by what you find convincing, it's because they're not "spiritually open."

Interesting. Convenient.

I'll wager that you enlightenment regarding metaphysical
truths is up to par with authors of any religious scriptures.
I hereby grant you license to change them by interpretation
or re-writing.
And for $9.99, I'll even send you a certificate of authority.
You are a trip! In a likable kind of way. I bet I would enjoy your company.

I think too many theists rely heavily on their church leaders, and while they might consider thesmelves followers of a Jesus or Muhammed what they are realy doing is following a religious leader and that person's interpretation. Ideally I would suggest theists read a diversity of texts, and learn from various leaders, and use the self's own moral authiorty and sense as guidance. What about those who are unable, or just morally backrupt? There should be peer pressure on them to adopt moral norms, and help them realize their limitations.

I love and believe in the Wise Buddha. His Words are so profound.

If people followed the original teachings I don’t think religion would have become so divided because the original texts teach love and unity.

I am also opposed to cherry-picking but I see another alternative: just drop the religion if one is not satisfied with it.

But that’s what happened to the scripture.

You're a conscious human living first on the nature of a rock planet inside a mass heavens. Exact place.

No bible. No thesis. No theist.

Number one the natural human.

Aware the nature says you have dominion as consciousness as your own.

Yet already knew as you perused everything else. As just a human.

No God.

Then as that human you live a spiritual natural life very aware. Family. Same anywhere on earth.

You get recorded as the state recorded can record a sun can record a rock can record a gas can record ice.

So you know you are not the state.

You then get phenomena by returned rock brain changed. It was mans science caused. It's recorded. Memory changes into Theist scientist personal man other brothers changed minds all agree.

The human teaching. Spiritual higher aware human talking about changed humans.

Everyone else still meek and kind.

History.
After ice age garden life is exact. Earths new god saviour ice. The other saviour passing by an asteroid wanderer.

Advised.

You hear old man's voices from past destroyed life on earth recorded giant pyramid a long time ago. To carbon position ashes and dusts. Science man caused. To biology.

You live now in a Desert.

Memory the humans doing science living in a beautiful earth garden. You don't.

You are in that human position 100 per cent wrong. The theist.

You can never ever be correct. You're just a human who builds a machine.

Yet you know about nothing.

The state on earth caves and sink holes. No mass nothing.

Nothing is real in created creation.

So you think about it. Claiming space empty and nothing once was and law just a burning mass. Energy free in space first thought.

Fake. As it's not free now it's held in mass. Also stated.

So nothing came about by pre existing mass burning. The law of nothing now holy. Don't copy ...said in theists mind.

As an egotist you survived the Bio attack. But what saved you was the planet presence and the natural heavens as mass present.

Told.

You don't want to be told. You feel personally powerful as the term a God of greater power than the power that attacked me.

You lied.

It's human behaviour life's destroyer on earth.

Taught.

I want even though self advice said don't....I did. Father spiritual talks to human man son. Conscious advice won't listen. The human teaching.

My want is an evil humans possession status of self greed gluttony and ownership. I am always one self yet I need group support to attain it.

Leadership of man always involved by group. Status one man but by group support.

I claim that I am better in my man's life by man's choices than any other brother. Yet I want that bad brother behaviour controlled.

So like any brother I vie to be the richest most powerful men on earth as control...yet choose the most evilest choices to achieve it. I don't behave correctly first.

As my families human destroyer.

As our human story the rich man scientist is by two minds about two men behaviours is true.

The theme what God human stories advised my conscious life about...always just a human.
