Parkersburg City Council rejects nondiscrimination ordinance

I am beyond angry.

I guess people think I should be fired or evicted in my town.

Our city hall sounded more like a church than a city hall.

I am beyond any more words. This is a defeat for all that is honest and American. The only reason this was denied as SEVERAL churches in the area INTENTIONALLY lied and misrepresented the policy which had the exact same wording as our current one but added the groups of veterans, orientation and gender identity and genetic information (and thus intersex ect).

But hey! What else can we expect from theocrats?!

Lying for Jesus is a pretty pathetic tactic but it wouldn't be encountered quite so often if it wasn't so effective.

If their version of Jesus was truth they wouldn't have to lie! All so they can fire and evict people like me and many others like veterans and intersexed people!

I am beyond angry. It doesn't matter and the lies and deceit of the theocratic win today.

I guess people think I should be fired or evicted in my town.

I'm am musician and I'm not too active but I think now is the time to rise up and speak against the theocratic hate machine.

Our damn city hall sounded more like a damn church than a city hall!! I am beyond outraged! I will give no apology, give no lenience. These Christian theocrats are nothing but unpatriotic garbage who have no reverence for American values or our constitution!!!

I agree. I cannot imagine why anyone would think that discrimination should be legally permissible. It really is sad that Christians, who spent so much of their early existence being persecuted, aren't decent enough to help protect a minority population from discrimination.

I just posted this in a thread about Islam. It applies here as well so forgive the duplication

It's pretty stupid that states would be allowed to do that.

America is pretty darn corrupt right now. Is it okay to say I'm not proud of my country? Well, I'll say that anyway because that's how I feel. Not proud of the government, it's being run by a cheeto-haired overweight albino potbelly pig now that's encouraging this kind of discrimination.

Town halls should not be run by religion, religious freedom is ensured in our documents. This means that religious beliefs should not be forced upon others and should not motavate government choices.

I kinda regret putting Christian in the title as it seems inflammatory but at the same time it was literally the only religion opposing it. The few non christian churches around that said anything on it were for the ordinance.

Well, technically, intersex is a protected class because it is sex. (While M/F are recognized formally, intersex is very much a real biological thing.) Those rules come down at the federal level, there is nothing someone can do in regard to housing discrimination in regard to that.

As far as transgender, well that's a mental construct at best - a disorder at worst - good luck with that. You may be able to ride the coat tails of the Americans with Disabilities Act, but then you have to admit that gender dysphoria is a mental problem. It doesn't look good to me either way, honestly. I think what you'd lose pursuing that angle would not be worth the gains. There no precedent for accepting gender as sex, and so much so as you yourself and no doubt others here who identify as transgender would certainly point out - I think you are in virgin territory here. I have no doubt this was about this area deciding they don't want to be the beta test.

I realize this is a liberal only forum, delete it if you want, I was only addressing the legal points not my own personal opinions. :D

They had intersexed listed separately from gender dysphoria.I don't care if people call it a disorder so long as they realize that the only real treatment for many is transition. We could consider it a disorder of the body/development rather than a disorder of the brain. But of course either way "disorders" have a stigma...

I could see where someone thinks very poorly of people with any other disorder and so evicts them even say when they always pay on time but I think that edges towards disability discrimination if it outright isn't.

Speaking from a mental health viewpoint actually being transgender isn't a disorder, it's experiencing gender dypshoria that is the disorder. CIS people can have dysphoria too after major injuries and the like and so the diagnosis isn't limited to just transgender people. The reason being transgender itself isn't a disorder is because there isn't any symptoms once the person transitions and it's the dysphoria that is treated. Assuming they ruled out other possibilities and after lots of therapy decide to go forward with transition that is.

And this area wasn't "The beta test" some other towns in the state passed it as well as in Ohio and of course a lot of big cities have similar nondiscrimination ordinances to cover the groups ours was expanding to as of many years ago.
