I can't help but wonder what is going on when over 40 Democrats (no bi-partisan effort) sponsor a bill like this:

Text - H.R.5383 - 116th Congress (2019-2020): New Way Forward Act

What motivates this? Where is the forethought? What is their purpose for pushing this?

Limiting:

TITLE III—LIMIT CRIMINAL-SYSTEM-TO-REMOVAL PIPELINE
SEC. 301. CRIMINAL OFFENSES AND IMMIGRATION LAWS.

SEC. 302. DEFINITIONS.

8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(43)) is amended—

(1) in the matter preceding subparagraph (A), by striking “means—” and inserting “means a felony, for which a term of imprisonment of not less than 5 years was imposed, that is—”;

There are rapists, battery, and a host of many other criminals that have less than 5 years.

Is this really what we want as a country for immigration?

Help me understand.

(PS -- I am not anti-democrat -- I am an independent that realize that either side can be wrong on any given subject)

I don't think this helps those who are Democrats when their representatives make these types of laws

I don't know what you're complaining about. This bill appears to attack trump's actions which to me is very much needed although Moscow Mitch won't let the Senate take it up if it passes the House

Why should we have any border controls?
Travel to the east coast would be easier for
me if I could pass thru Canuckistan.

Section 701 d states that any illegal alien found guilty of a felony in the USA, who has been deported, will be given at taxpayer expense, a ticket back to the USA.

The text reads: Transportation.—The Secretary of Homeland Security shall provide transportation for aliens eligible for reopening or reconsideration of their proceedings under this section, at Government expense, to return to the United States for further immigration proceedings and shall admit or parole the alien into the United States.

I'm sorry, but that is absolutely unacceptable, as are far too many of the provisions of this bill.

Do you agree that we should just end border controls?
Government would save a fortune.

Theoretically it would be great to have an open border but that's not practical currently. We do need a sane system and not the craziness we have now which includes trump punishing citizens who happen to live in New York State, to cite just the latest example.

If people can enter Ameristan illegally, & then remain here
without any sanction, then this is effectively an open border.
Why not skip the cost of pretending we have restrictions?

NY is a mess of their own making, ie, they provoke
the fed, & endure the anticipated consequences.
Btw, what do you think of Canuckistan's system?

Tell chairman Cuomo to stop the b******* of trying to give drivers license to illegals on some half-baked whacked-out idea of highway safety.

It's an irony since 9/11 that he would block information sharing between law enforcement agencies (border protection)to the point that Trump had to slam shut the opening afforded through the Nexus program.

New Yorkers don't like the green light law and the cause of it is chairman Cuomo himself. Not Trump.

Christian values? Non-tribal morality?

So you fear the immigrants, even when they are less criminal that average Americans; even though, historically, migrants have proved a net benefit to the country?
You're pleading xenophobia as a legitimate reason to restrict immigration?

Being against rapists and felony act is only a Christian value? ,What are your values?

You're pleading xenophobia as a legitimate reason to restrict immigration?

My wife is an immigrant from Venezuela with Native Indian blood - I'm a third generation American with descendants from Italy, Germany and Spain . So, what is your basis for your comment about being Xenophobic?

Your basis for "less criminal than the average American"? Site?

The laws were there before Trump and been there through the Bush pair, Clinton and Obama. How are laws before Trump against what Trump has done?

Great job in opening up the package.

Why would more than 40 Democrats support this type of bill? What would be there ultimate goal?

I wish the more sensible Democrats would stand up and speak.

Order is out of fashion....& it's racist.

I think the only way we'll ever have a coherent border & immigration policy
is if we get a Democrat as Prez. Then they'll not view opposing it as
politically useful, & will cooperate with the other side. Til then, we have
no real policy...anyone who sneaks in need only move to sanctuaries to
be immune from the law.
An ideal (yet possible) scenario.....Yang beats Trump.

Sounds like anarchism.

From what I just read Illegal immigration to Canada - Wikipedia they don't have an open border instead having a much less restrictive border law. I don't know enough to comment beyond the superficial level.

I'm not in favor of an open border. I am in favor of not penalizing children for the crimes of their parents, that is, "Dreamers". If we want to penalize children for their parents crimes, then let's go all the way and if a parent commits a felony, put all the children in prison as well.

I'm not in favor of putting people in cages especially children. I'm not in favor of tearing families apart at the border.

I'm not in favor of giving people here illegally a free pass. But if someone has worked or studied and not committed a felony, I would give them a choice between leaving or paying a fine and doing community service.
