Doesn't a statement like completely discount social sciences? There is more to social sciences than a reasoning of objective actions/results.

Sincerely,

and so we open the debate of "are the social sciences really sciences?"

i don't think they are........

What do you think of the phrase "there are no absolutes"? It seems to me that the phrase itself is an absolute, therefore rendering it false. But excluding that minor quibble, what do you think? Is everything really relative, or are there some (or possibly many) inescapable truths?

I would say that there are "absolutes", even in religious truths. However, I don't believe in ULTIMATE truth.

My personal motto for agnosticism is:

There are many truths,
And there is no truth.
The "no truth" actually referred to "no ultimate truth".

I guess this is the right place for this...

I suppose it could be argued that if there is solipsim, then there can only be absolutes, as my consciousness would be the sole factor upon which absolutes are made. However, I believe that is most unlikely; I don't think there are any absolutes.........; maybe posters could suggest some.......

The idea of "absoluteness" is like the idea of eternity, perfection, or infinity. It's an idea that we can conceive of and even use (relatively), but it's not an idea that we can verify. So saying, "there are no absolutes" is much like saying, "there is no God", in that both statements refer to ideas that can't be verified because they're infinite. And we are not.
