Try these clever re-written questions!

"If I were to go to Hell for doing this, would I still do it?"
"What would the afterlife be like if I designed it?"
"What do I want out this...?"
"If god were real what would I want it to be like?"
"Is this right for me?"

>.>
yep some times the questions are wrong

So what is the point of religion? Science is the only thing actually seeking for answers and discovering new clues.
What is the point of having religion scaring people that they will burn for eternity because they are natural born "sinners"?

Gods word doesnt teach a God that would create a literal place of eternal torment. It was symbolism. False religions that live in the darkness teach that sadistic lie, because in reality they do not know God or his son. They throw the names around but know little.
Mans science for the most part has polluted Gods land, water, air, not to mention the huge hole in the ozone. Gods kingdom is mankinds only remaining hope--it is at hand.

Seems like a very diluted tale compared to what I studied for myself and what every christian I've talked to, which happens to be alot more than I can count.
All of them have the same bs excuses to why they ignore those parts of the bible but not the other.

So its not true that he destroyed cities leaving the inhabitants to eat their children?
No kidding its in the bible. Look it up. God did that!

Its the source of all truth for you guys but you can't keep a straight story. Its all BS, and that gift wrapping you tried laying isn't fooling anyone.

If science is the cause of pollution of Gods greatest wonders, please consider yourself dead, because with out science we would still have polio, and yellow fever would still be a threat.

If you take any medication whatsoever or use your car. Don't! Its that evil pesky science again.
Don't use lights, batteries, while your at it don't even use fire. Rubbing sticks and any fuel made today is all thanks to science.
God damn that science.

And you think that a special selection of people get to inherit a luxury of a wonderful afterlife, simply by buying into this book of BS with all of your heart?

You are right,God killed wicked human beings,He always warned them first. Gods science is precise,Mans is flawed, they are ruining the earth and God warned them well in advance--He will bring to ruin those ruining his earth. Not only that, they try to elevate themselves above God by calling him a liar and teaching evolution over creation.
Yes Gods kingdom will bring about a paradise earth, is promised to those who live to do Gods will now. It is mankinds only remaining hope.

I am guilty of it too...asking questions such as:

"What if I do this, will I go to hell"?
"Is there an afterlife"?
"What does it mean..."
"Is God real"?
"Who is right or wrong"?

There are no definitive answers to any of these questions.

Interesting thread!

Ultimately, no there are no answers that will satisfy your quest for knowledge or understanding. However, that does not mean that you can't find peace, or at least some path and lifestyle that appeals to you. To each their own.

When you die, if there is no God or afterlife, you'll never know it, so it doesn't really matter. Carl Sagan did not believe in God or an afterlife, and as he lay dying, he knew that he would never see his wife again. That was his belief. It is sad to think that way, but such is life.

If there is a God and an afterlife, hopefully you get to go there. The question of "how" you get to go there is the subject of debate across a wide variety of religions. Is it faith alone? Do good deeds account for anything? Do you need to make blood sacrifices? No one can say for sure. What we infer from religion is that you need to benevolent, so living a life of crime is probably not the best path to take!

"Who is right or wrong"?

There are no definitive answers to any of these questions.

Religions across the world disagree on so many points because their version of a holy book says this, whereas some other religion says something different. People get hung up on single words and use them to debate endlessly about a broad topic (ex. Jews vs. Christians and the virgin birth based off the word "almah"). If you strip away all the glam, the so-called experts, the different translations, the different philosophies, the little differences in names, etc., all you are left with is a question about something that can't be proven.

Is there an afterlife? Is there a God? Will I go to hell?

No one can say for sure because once you die, that's it...you're simply dead. You can't do an essay on it, you can't record it in HD, you can't take snapshots with your cellphone. You can't call up your friends and inform them about the experience, you can't post on Facebook or upload to Youtube. There is not a person on the planet who can answer any of those questions beyond a shadow of a doubt.

All we have are varied beliefs. Those beliefs are supported by interpretations, theories, and best guess scenarios. There is no way to discern who is right and who is wrong.

I'm not trying to be the pessimistic weenie of the group, but for those seeking answers...there are no answers.

All you can do is live your life, listen to your heart, make the most of each day, and die fully prepared for the "what ifs" when the lights go out.

Realism really sucks sometimes.

CDWolfe,
It seems to me that you should just ask a question about a particular subject, and then meditate on the answers you get, and look up scriptures to see whether what is said is accurrate or not. That is; if you really want to know the truth about anything.
FIRST, the Bible has very definitive answers to all you have asked.
The Bible says that the Bible is written as the men wrote, carried along by Holy Spirit, that ALL scripture is inspired by God, 2Tim 3:16,17, 2Pet 1:20,21. God has promised to keep His word from becoming contaminated with false doctrines, Ps 12:6,7. The Bible is actually the ONLY thing in this world that you can trust completely.
Notice a couple of scriptures, Pro 3:5,6. Conside especially Ps 146:3,4, where we are told not to trust in men in whom no salvation belongs. Consider also Jere 17:5.
I'll consider a couple, first will you go to hell.
The Bible says to PROVE TO YOURSELF the good and exceptable and the perfect will of God, Rom 12:2, also 1Thes 5:21. Have you really tried this? Do you have a concordance, so that you can look up things and get an accurrate understanding of God's word or do you just listen to men??
A very important thing to remember is; God had His word written down, so that it does not change, so you can be sure of what God wants you to know. If you listen to men, no matter who they claim to be, you are going to get differing OPINIONS, but God's word is always there, and is truth, John 17:17.
Let's talk about HELL. The word hell is a corruption of the Greek word HADES. The Greek word HADES means the same as the Hebrew word Sheol. Compare Ps 16:10, where the Hebrew word sheol is used then look up Acts 2:27, where this scripture is quoted, and here in Greek it is hades. Now notice that Jesus went into hades. Jesus would have NEVER gone into a place of torment, he was perfect, never having sinned. Actually to the Hebrews, Jews, there was no thought of the grave, which is hades and sheol, of being a place of anything but death.
The reason for much of the problem is because many do not realize what the Bible says that death is. Death is being OUT OF EXISTENCE, Job 14:2. There is NO FEELING, NO knowledge after death, Ecc 3:18-20, 9:5,6,10, Ps 146:3,4. Notice that Job asked to go into sheol because he thought it a place of rest, Job 14:10-15. Jesus spoke of death as if it was sleep, when Jesus' friend Lazarus died, John 11:11-14. Jesus resurrected Lazarus after he had been dead four days. Lazarus was definitely NOT in a place of torment, and he was not in heaven as some think they go, because if he were in heaven Jesus would never have resurrected Lazarus out of heaven. The word resurrection means to stand up again to life.
If you will meditate on these scriptures and maybe look the words up in a concordance you will have started to learn the truth.
Where everyone goes after death is into the ground, and returns to the dust, because out of dust we were made, Gen 3:19. Jesus came to earth to give his life for us so that we could live again, in a paradise earth, John 5:28,29, Acts 24:15, John 3:16, Matt 20:28, Rev 21:1-6. Some of the conditions that will be there are written in Isa 11:1-9, 65:17-25.

I can only think to take this as a sarcastic response.
Please listen to yourself.
You sound like a drone. Do you not value the life you are given.
Your so scared of this being that someone made up thinking he will burn you for eternity if you don't do what he likes and everything he does is good just because.
There is no proof of any of it. You might as well believe in fairies.

Who is to say anyone is going anywhere for doing anything?

Well i guess if one goes through life thinking poof--trillions upon trillions upon trillions of atoms all just happen to land in the precise spots all at once because of a big bang, it would be pretty confusing.
An eternal place of suffering is taught by false religions that do not know God or his son. The precision of Gods science is proof, how wonderfully our human bodies are designed and our brains. the precision of the universe. How the sun just happens to be the perfect distance away and that jupiter( 1000 times bigger than the earth) has a great gravitational influence besides blocking asteroids and such. The variety in every single created thing.
Wouldnt one think that evolution would be progressive and exact since all the things i mentioned are--then how come mans hearts are still filled with hatred for one another, how come they cannot learn from past mistakes by now? Why do the things they create continually pollute and destroy the earth and man, for the allmighty dollar.
Jehovah is the creator, get to know him and his love and you too can understand and maybe even gain eternal life.

The problem with religion is that it is primarily based on speculative metaphysics, so no, there are no definitive answers. People look at what's there, and then choose a religion (or none) based on what they see to be correct. People choose their religion based on what's relative to them and their views. There's nothing objective about it. I converted to Buddhism based on what I believed to be true. I tried to use reason as much as possible, but that's not always possible. Experience also plays a large part of it. When it comes to religion, you're not going to find many, if any, objective answers. All you can do is answer the questions based on what you know and believe.

As does sophistry.

Just so you know:

It is not sophistry unless the person is purposefully affirming something s/he does not believe in so to be "right"

simply believing what the other is saying is false, but still is made to sound "truth" does not account for the other person to be practicing sophistry. For that, the person him/herself must be purposefully lying.

There are billions of planets within the universe. (All of them, in order to be called a planet, are satellites to a nearby star.

There are about 400 billion stars in our galaxy alone. If each of them have the same number of planets (on average) as our own sun, then that's about 4 trillion planets in our own galaxy alone. Multiply that by an estimated 125 billion galaxies in the universe ... that's a lot of planets.
We are just one of those planets.

The chances of a planet sustaining life is thought not to be unlikely.

The odds of life are not completely against us.
Although the odds are small, they still exist.
