That's the point.
A community does not have to kill a convict.
Life imprisonment shows the true nature of that community, imo.

It's also becoming increasingly hard to keep so many convicts imprisoned for life. We already have overcrowding problems as is. Serial Rapist (of any kind child or adult) that have done it more than once, and murderers who have multiple kills (that's not out of emotion) should be put down imo.

I guess that a lot of convicts committed their murders and manslaughters having lost control of their emotions.

I can forgive a murderer. I have no sympathy for anyone that would harm a child.

OK.
I can acknowledge your opinion, but I could not support executions.
What I could support would be prison work to pay for necessities.

Of all nations America has the most incarcerated persons of any out there. That's saying something when we consider China and Iran.
I think people who are sentenced to LwoP should have the option to ask to be euthanized when they've had enough of life behind bars. Imagine being sentenced like that and you're 21. Average life expectancy for a male is what? Mid 70's? Forty-nine years in a living hell on earth? No thanks.

Prison reform is long overdue. Now there are private for profit prisons in America.
As for actual guilty pedophiles they're typically housed in the safe housing units in prisons. also known as the SHU. Safe Housing Unit. Their numbers would go down quickly if they were in general population.
I don't know what we're going to do about our overcrowded prisons.

We could make them labor centers. "American Made". Rather than housing inmates who have nothing to do all day for the most part but scheme on how to mess people up behind bars. Make them work for their room and board.

I agree, if I was ever sentenced to life without parole I would try plea for the death sentence.

My thoughts exactly.

Yes it is.

We can start by decriminalizing some crimes. Crimes where physical harm of a person was not committed. They should still be punished. But just not held in jail for years. Punished how? Well we can cross that bridge once we get to it.

I was thinking something like that. But teach em a trade skill to do that labor. Them they have a marketable skill coming out of "convict school". Just spit balling here. But yes something of the like is needed for prison reform.

I have thought about this a lot. I am torn between the idea of sanctity of life and hope against being housed for life in a horror show. Despite my view of fighting for life, I think I would choose the death penalty over prolonged incarceration too.

I agree with the idea of prison reform too. Non-violent criminals should receive punishment, but keeping them held for years and turning them loose with nothing does not seem to be a sustainable solution.

I'd do myself in before I went to prison. We know prison guards and the stories they tell, heck yes I would. Women's prisons are worse in terms of violence and self-segregation.

Agreed.
We also need to amend mandatory sentencing. And we definitely need to curb in judges capacity to sentence offenders. Someone shouldn't have to suffer a lengthy sentence because the judge was in a bad mood that day and wanted to send everyone to hell
We know a judge in the local criminal court. One day a few years ago he was talking with my husband before the judge went to work. He said he was in a bad mood that day, gave details, and then said, today I'm sending everybody to jail.
That's not right.
Also, lift the immunity protections on the prosecutors office.

There are work programs in many prisons. They do then learn a trade for when they are released or are out on parole.
My thought is everyone incarcerated should have to work and earn a skill. Even lifers and those sentenced to LwoP.

This was quite a surprise back in 2016: Though I can understand the point being when someone has served their time or are on parole their chances of gaining lawful employment is diminished when they check off that box; have you ever been convicted of a crime?
