I am amused that I can buy underwear on Amazon one day and then be tracked by underwear advertisements everywhere I surf online. Was talking with my son the other day, and he told me a story where he and his friend were talking about boots at work, only to be hit with adverts about boots while surfing on his phone (including his friend's phone). It's like when I go out to eat, Google immediate asks for a review because they know where I have been.

What a nutty world. I never anticipated this.

I was hunting around for gym gear for my wife's birthday. I now get very large ads of women in lycra on my phone when accessing certain pages.

At some stage I'm gonna get a 'Please Explain'...

Any time I have an item sitting in my cart for the site I buy clothes from, I get advertisements popping up with that item. I wonder, if you're sharing an internet connection with family, if they would get a hint as to what you're planning on buying them for their birthday.

I have three browsers I use: Firefox, Chrome, Edge. One of them is not linked to any saved account info and typically I only use it in private mode. That cuts down on the advertising stalkers. I also have "NoScript" on firefox which also helps.

Who uses the internet with ads?

I stopped bothering with cable television years ago because I got sick of ads. I would do the same thing to the internet as well if there wasn't such a thing as adblock.

I randomly get adverts on my phone for Body Armor... I don't even own the gun in the house my wife does.

A couple of months ago i clicked a car ad on FB, not because we want a new car but it was a new model and wanted to check out the spec. Now, gone are the random ads for new furniture, visit some castle I've never heard of, the latest music trend or restaurant. Literally every ad i i see on FB is for a car.

When does this targeting run out to return to random ads?

they have a broad range of functionality, all innocuous
