So I turned off my lights after I thought all the trick-or-treaters were gone.

As an older man, the idea of living on your own has both a downside and an upside.
On the downside, you could injure yourself in your home so seriously such that you are dying and there'd be no-one there to help you.
On the upside, if you are dying there'll be no-one there telling you that you're doing it wrong.
