Things You Love About Christianity

christian architecture

When I was on a tour of sacred buildings in Italy I kept thinking of how a medieval peasant would have reacted to walking into a towering building of beauty. If anything physical could give a sense of what Christians thought of as heaven, it was those buildings. I felt their power in spite of seeing them in the 1990's

There are some beautiful and awe inspiring churches in Italy

Enough complaining.

Tell me what you love about it!

Honestly? I'm struggling to think of anything.

As some people have pointed out, some Christian churches are architecturally pretty, but they feel tainted to me: these ornate structures are expressions of the parasitism of the organizations that built them, so I can't find any joy in them.

The only youth homeless shelter in Toronto is run by a Christian organization. I'll go with that.

Firstly, the Bible. To me, like the Bhagavad-Gita, Quran and Vedas the Bible is sacred scripture. I read the Bible daily and gain so much knowledge and insight from it. In my hometown I am good friends with the Catholics here and their priest and have attended mass many times. I also have some incredible Christian friends who visit occasionally and they always bring things like Biryani and other Indian dishes. To me, Jesus is Lord and Saviour just like Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and I humbly pray to both for wisdom and humility.

Anyone can join, and there is a lot to read, a lot of exploration of ideas. I also enjoy singing hymns. Sermons are somewhat like lectures and can help activate the reading material.

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
There is about 2000 words in the Bible that are pretty, poetic, and inspiring. The other 780,000 words reveal it's not at all worthy of reverence, nor respect. The classical art, the architecture inspired by those pretty words is amazing. People over the years have made it more beautiful than it deserves.

The idea of a place of reverence in a church, and delivering words of charity and inspiration and help could be a noble idea if there were a genuine message to give. If only a true and noble message were available to give then that idea would spring to life.
