Things You Thought You Knew About English

I must say I rather liked it. (Though I admit it did make me wonder, for a brief instant, about chemotherapy - my wife wore one when she was on taxol.)
A woman in my class wore/wears one for cultural reasons and I said I'd always liked to but was a bit not sure, esp. living with my grandparents and dad, but when I moved to Canterbury it became a non-issue; so after speaking to her I decided to wear one and haven't looked back. Now another woman is asking after it, how to tie one etc. It's been complemented so far. The bf hates folks staring at it :p

Many years ago, I thought English grammar and spelling made sense. :D

It probably made most sense back in the old days when there was no standard agreed spelling, and people made it up as they went.

Many still do, but have spell and grammar checks pinging them for it.

I find it interesting how English became so very different from German but is still very German in the grammar. It's assimilated individual languages from all over the world into its collective lexicon, and also in just as much of a Borgish way retained it's original function and foundation.

Would you be able to tie a Hermès scarf into a turban? I've got a lot of them that are no use to me. My wife used to like them. You could have one to try. (I'm notorious for trying to offload scarves and handbags to female acquaintances.)

I expect people stare either because they are wondering what your religion is, or because they think you look remarkably healthy for someone on chemo! :D But it looks good.

I could try! If you'd give me one to test I could give it a go; depends on size and shape etc. (and obviously whether or not I like it!)

We'll discuss this with S in private :)
