2016 presidential primary season is in full swing, which means, among other things, that Fox News’ ratings are skyrocketing. Fox News has been the most watched cable news network in the country for 12 straight years, regularly pulling in more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined. During the first Republican primary debate of this season, Fox clocked its most-ever (24 million) viewers, making the two-hour show the highest-rated non-sports cable telecast of all time.

Over the last ten years, everyone I know has lost a friend or family member or mentor to Fox News. Like me, they have watched helplessly as people they love have become part of the conservative punditry herd and, over time, traded their compassion for paranoia; their thoughtful opinions for manufactured outrage; and their empathy for hateful rhetoric. These people — these moms and dads and aunts and uncles and grandparents and brothers and sisters and pastors and politicians and friends — have been deceived into believing that Fox News and Fox-approved talk radio hosts provide the only commentary they can trust.......con't

That's why I encourage everyone to view it from a non-biased perspective. These are legitimate propaganda techniques used for hundreds of years.
The author does a good job of pointing out propaganda with examples as well.

I appreciate that. We can but hope, but IMPE, cognitive disonance and tribalism are stronger than an evidence based, well reasoned article, unfortunately.

I just see what appears to be the most important subject to both sides. The MSM is just POed because Trump won't talk with them and does Fox. I can clearly see why.

Indeed. I don't know what to do any more. I had evidence based practice drilled into me at uni. Arguing based on facts and evidence is the only way I know how to deal with misinformation. I sincerely don't know what it takes with these guys. Their cognitive defences are so well honed. Present evidence with clear, easy to follow graphs and they short circuit the whole discussion with a couple of trite logical fallacies, and off they go, smug and sanctimonious and with their unsupported nonsense beliefs utterly unchanged.

I think a lot of people are like this because of childhood conditioning and indoctrination, thus I believe that schools should place a lot more emphasis on objective analysis and critical thinking.

It would be fine if:

1) Fox News viewers even believed in climate change, they don't. Nothing to mislead...

2) Obamacare is ****, other than the provision that makes people who have ongoing medical conditions able to be insured. It doubled the prices of insurance for everyone, and they're still going up.

3) Discrimination isn't race specific. All races experience it. Think you don't? Take your white pasty skin to the south side of Chicago or Dearborn, MI and see what happens. Try to get a job in those regions, I'm sure you'll figure out you can't.

4) The other stuff is irrelevant... Right-Wing or Right-Leaning media is going to invite more guests to talk shows that their viewership is going want to see. CNN doesn't invite right wing personalities to their shows unless they want to have a 5+ gang bang on them. Tit for tat. At least when they invited to a Fox Network program it's one on one and they are given the opportunity to explain their views.

I'm not a "Fox" fan, I just think some of the hosts on there ask good questions. I've never had that impression of other networks. Arguments like they're deceitful about climate change are rubbish if only that anyone doing the work knows the whole angle of that theory is based on information that you can't have. We can't predict the weather more than three days in advance with supercomputers. Climate change was just a re-badge of another bogus concept -- global warming... When it got cooler in the previous decade they had to change the name... Ohh climate change... well yeah... the Earths climate has been changing since the minute it appeared in the the starry sea of blackness.
