Tired of "666"

I really wish people would stop posting every little "666" reference they come across. It is ignorant, considering the number refers to calculating the sum of a name, using a particular system of letter values. In other words, please stop. "666" is a number people have made far too much out of. While there is occult significance, to my knowledge, it is rarely what people refer to.

Debate topic: The ridiculously uneducated people who constantly reference "666", as if it means something regarding the future of humanity or the planet.

many humans are superstitious, a trait carried down from the cave days, when just a shadow on the wall would have them crapping.

Unlike conspiracy theories and the illuminati, right?

666 too mainstream? Try 616! It's more historically accurate anyway.

Numbers are numbers. It's not like one is particularly more important than the others without a context. But the context that everyone frames 666 in is a misunderstanding of history; see, back long ago Nero's name was written down a 616 in the Christian book of Revelations. No one translated it as six hundred sixty six until a few centuries later when Nero's name was written as something more like "Neron". The translators understood it to be a reference to Nero, but thought that 616 was a mistranslated and so "corrected" it to 666 and that translation has stuck since.

The modern interpretation of 666 as the number of "The Beast" that is this "devil" or Satan or whatever have you is basically all fabricated and not even an intended meaning of the author. But a lot of other historical records will show this original/real meaning too (it referencing Nero), not that it's ever going to stop people from believing it is the number of Satan.

I sometimes use 666 to refer to an Infernal side of human Nature. I sometimes use 777 to refer to a Celestial side of human Nature. This is how it is in my culture and traditions. Numbers are numbers and they can mean whatever we want them to mean.

Would you mind pointing to one person here at RF who "constantly reference '666'"? Your "Debate topic" is a caricature, a joke.
