Tithing

Oh...and I don't see why it would devolve into a nasty argument although at some point we'll have to agree to disagree. Who knows....we may already have reached that point. :)
I'm guessing we have. I'm sorry. It wasn't my intention to upset you.

Wow, some interesting stuff. When I get a few more minutes I'll read all of it so stop me if you've heard this..... The New Testatament began with the death of the testater. Look it up. Anything shortcomings og the temple goers fell under Old Testament jurisdiction.

My next question is, of those of you who do tithe what have been your experiences in recieving blessings from your actions?

Sandy,

It has been my experience that if I make myself available to God, He always supplies the resources for me and my family. Sometimes He even gives me the desire of my heart (that I may not "need") sometimes. Being available means everything you are and own belongs to God and He can require it for His purpose at any time.

Sandy,
Do you believe God would deal less generously with you if you do not tithe?

Well, as dumb as this may sound, when I tithe, I always seem to be able to meet all of my other financial needs. When I don't, there's trouble all around! I know it makes no sense, but that is my experience.

Interesting. I don't tithe and my life and finances are just fine and I can more than meet all my financial needs.

Also, the perfect building just came available (one I drooled over 5 years ago) and the offer, loan and closing went off without a hitch. I know God's hand is in this one because it came at the perfect time.

I wonder what that means? Maybe that tithing...or not....has no bearing on God's blessings? :)

I can't say. I can only speak for myself, from my own experience. :)

So, I am still a little confused on the subject of tithing. I understand the 10% part, but does that all necessarily have to be given to the church you attend.

For those of you who are church goers, do you tithe? If so, how much? Is it ten percent or the one dollar bill on major holidays? Is giving to charity or the poor guy next door tithing? What if you don't like what your church is spending their money on?

What's your view?
There is no tithe in the Baha`i Faith. There is the Huquq'u'llah (Right of God) its rather complex to compute, but everyone does it for themselves without interference from anyone else.

Only Baha`i's can give to Baha`i funds, so we accept no money from people who are not declared members of the faith.

Giving should be sacrificial, but only the individual figures what is sacrificial. Giving is strictly confidential, the only record of who in particular gave what is the receipt from the treasurer to the individual and the gift is noted by a code number with no name attached.

Scott

Tithing back in the time of the Old Testament was different than tithing as we know it today. It wasn't really about giving money but more about giving what you had. Sharing with others God's blessing that he gave you. For example if you were a farmer, God expected you to give 10% of your crops to the less fortunate. There was no middle man (the church) back then. When you tithed back then it went straight to the needy. This is how I choose to tithe (for the time being). No middle man. I go straight to the needy. I do realize that churches need money from the community to function. But witnessing the amount of hypocrisy in organized religion has made me reluctant to give them anything other than a smile. I know not all churches are bad and a lot of them do many wonderful things to help people. And if I find one that I feel is legit, I may start considering giving them some donations.
