Obviously not all need religion, but it seems some do on a psychological level.
There is something to be said for "human nature," which is that while there is such a thing, it is incredibly variable. I think that there are people who would not feel "complete" without comfortable religious beliefs to hold onto, while I think there are others, like myself, perhaps, who find religion confining and antithetical to what I really want, which is to learn about the world and my place in it. And I suspect, as is always the case when we're talking about humans, a whole bunch of shades in between.

Yes. The rules of the religion ('dharma' in case of Hinduism) guide people. But Gods and messengers are unnecessary items, IMHO. I am a strong atheist but I have not abandoned Hinduism for the above reason - 'dharma'.
Certainly not for this human - life is so much more fun without conflicting 'rules' - and I would suggest perhaps not for all humans, given that if they were born in a different country then they most likely would have a different religion, and one that conflicted with the one they presently accept.
Nothing needs religion to exist except maybe religion.
Going to have to be a pretty big body. Like cells in the human body.
Please lord, don't let me be a cell in the large intestine..

No, but many questions in life go unanswered without it.
Many lives saved, bellies filled etc would not be that way without it.
