What, concerning his role in the Da Vinci Code, would make his membership in the Orthodox church at risk ???

Not his membership in the Church but his reception of the sacraments. The Da Vinci Code is rank heresy incompatible with Orthodox faith and as such Orthodox Christians have no place even reading it, let alone popularising it in the mass media. As such, were I his priest (thankfully I'm not, nor anyone else's) I would certainly have expected confession and penance before allowing him access to the chalice. Not permanent excommunication, just temporary and for his own good. Such is common for us - permanent (actually more like indeterminate - even an anathematised heresiarch could repent and return to the Church) excommunication is very rare and rightfully so.

Why? Because it pointed out that Jesus Christ could have been married? Oh yes, I forget, that is a horrible thing. Honestly, my favorite line was "Why couldn't He be divine and married?"

Becky, the Orthodox Church gets to set up its rules about what is and isn't heretical, and anyone who doesn't want to abide by that isn't required to join.

Surely there are things in LDS that if someone went around publically saying "I'm LDS and I believe...." they might be contacted about that?

Goodness, as a Baha'i if I took part in a demonstration and held up a sign that said "Bombs for God" I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone contacted me suggesting there were some Baha'i Writings I might wish to study, nor would I think the institutions of the Faith were out of bounds for doing so.

Organizations, religious and otherwise, have standards, and I know it runs against the American libertine grain to suggest that a member might actually try to abide by said standards, but there is a certain logic to the idea of actually following them or just not being part of the membership.

The problem is not having standards -- it's when the method for enforcement of standards gets into areas of oppression and abuse.

Do you have links to experiences they've had with the church ???

My brother was a missionary and visited Christina A's family (members, but less active, IIRC) before she became really famous. She had been on Star Search, but that was about it. He has a tape of her at the age of 12 singing "Everything I Do" by Bryan Adams in the family living room on their karaoke machine. I was thrilled to hear her stuff hit big time, but of course her material has been very disappointing. My brother seemed pretty disappointed, too, though he still has fond memories of their visits.

Cool, we have verification now that she was in fact exposed to the LDS faith or at least it's members, as was Jewel, according to Nutshell...

So Becky, still think it's just urban legends ???

Most of it, yes. There are a few stories here and there, but in a large part, celebrities becoming Mormon or have been Mormon are urban legends.
