I have great respect for tradition. Particularly liberal tradition.
Jesus was put to death for challenging the establishment of his time and place. Subversive, radical spirituality is very much a Christian tradition.
I find we have a warning about following religious traditions of customs at Matthew 15:9.
I find it was the corrupted religious leaders of Jesus day who got the Romans to do their dirty work.
That is why Jesus was put to death on trumped-up charges of: treason, sedition and injured majesty.

Caiphus was certainly corrupt. The Talmud has nothing nice to say about him. In general, the Temple priests were appointed by Rome, so its obvious where the root of the corruption came from. However, the Pharisees were simply those with semiikha (the leaning of hands) granting them the authority to rule on how to interpret the Torah. Jesus, in Matthew 23:1-2 underscores that they have authority, and that his followers are to do EVERYTHING they teach, and that WOULD include the Oral Torah.

This is a debate mostly if not exclusively aimed at Abrahamics of all stripes, but as I'm not an Abrahamic I can't take part in a same-faith debate, so I have to put it here.

Are you more traditionalist or liberal? In matters of dress, sex, sexuality, gender norms, abortion etc. where do you fall in the social attitudes scale? If you're more for liberalising how would you justify this given the general socially conservative nature of the scriptures? If you're a traditionalist, how far do you think it should go and why? Would it involve government?

Please note, I'm not looking for indepth debates on these individual topics, but how you justify your views on them with regards to your religion, scriptures, etc.

Uhhhhhhh, why is there not a third option?

I'm a centrist. I believe in small government and personal freedom.

I reject the notion that "liberal" means free though. I have seen enough liberal hypocrites who claim to be for the environment but ride around in big cars or jet planes, or who claim to be pro-immigration but don't seem to understand that there is exploitation of immigrants going on. I am pro-LGBT and pro-environment but I have seen the "environment" misused for socialist causes and the LGBT movement politicized. What I am in favor is the idea that people's sexual preferences or clothing choices is between them and their God.

I also reject the fundamentalist right. I think in theory the right tends to be in favor of smaller government and more connection to religion. But I oppose war spending overseas. I oppose the idea of trying to police the world. And I oppose the idea of big global corporations. I especially oppose prosperity gospel.

I am neither a strong gun rights advocate nor a big believer in social justice. I think God intended us to live in freedom and happiness, not be driven either by success or justice.

In this arena I'm so far out in left field I cannot even see the ballpark.
