So I am a follower of the Church of God. I believe in living my life the best I can, striving everyday to be a better Christian than I was five seconds before. I believe that by living my life attemping to show God in everything I do is a much better than knocking on peoples doors and trying to explain God in five minutes. However today my campus had several individuals (I'm assu
ing several because when one comes several come) who were handing out these mini pamphlets. I snagged one from a girl in my class who didn't want hers and attempted to read this. Needless to say I busted out laughing at the statement 'death is like sex'. How is death like sex? Medically speaking from what I understand about sex is that your body is having mini heart attacks and strokes. Death is like the best most calming experience a person can have. Something about the brain producing some chemical as it's losing oxygen that puts you in euphoric state of mind.

My question is who are these people? What denomination are they from? Cause I can't find anything on them except a few random posts o. Here that don't really explain anything. If anyones read these pamphlets it's (and I'll quite my stepfather here) "like someone who grew up in the church and was drunk half the time". It makes no sense and to top it off the pamphlet quotes Martin Luther, not the Jr., who grew up in medieval Europe and was a know sexist. However to be fair almost every male back then was a sexist.

So does anyone know who these guys are? They didn't really say much except to shove these things into our hands and say something like, "want to be converted?"

Wasn't there a name on the pamphlet? Because I haven't the foggiest notion who you're talking about.

Speaking of denominations, is Church Of God one, or is it just a euphemism for general Christianity?

Well The denomination is Church of God. It'd would be like saying I'm baptist I'm guessing. We basically believe the bible should be believed in it's entire context and we are not allowed to pick and choose what we like and don't like or add things to the bible.

But ya it's odd they didn't put any contact information on the pamphlet.

I do not spend any time on your campus, so I do not know who is there. That would be your job.

As regards knocking on doors, I read a scripture that changed my mind about such ones that have the courage to knock on my door. It is this: "while I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house." - Acts 20:20

So it takes a bit of courage to knock on doors, but salesmen do it all the time. So for me the goal is to differentiate between the salesman and the messengers.

I was asking if anyone had heard of them not if you knew them cause you stalked me on my campus. It's actually not my job to know whose advertising on my campus. It's my job to go to class and get good grades. And no I don't think much comes of knocking on people doors and trying to shove religion down their throats til they often slam the door in your face. If you talk to people you know and influence even just people you don't know very well you make more of a difference cause their defense are down IMO. And I've never seen or heard of a door to door salesman in my entire life. Only ever heard of them in 50's era movies.

Please curb your sarcasm and snide comments. I won't respond next time you try and lecture me on knowin what goes on at my campus. I frankly care less j less it involves my studies.

Hi guys. I don't know if anyone will see this, over 9 years having passed since the last post here. I just met the gentleman in question today on my own college campus in Pennsylvania, and received the same pamphlet discussed earlier. There has been one update: there is now a website address on the back of the tract: travelerpamphletministry.wordpress.com. This thread was the only other mention of "Traveler Pamphlet Ministry" I could find online.

It really is just one guy by the looks of it, who lives in a van traveling the continental United States handing these out. He's "spiritual but not religious", an "individualist" who doesn't often go to church and never speaks in them. "I define religion sociologically, as what people do in a group," I think he said.

You can read the text of the tract, which I guess he wrote in 1989, on the website.

I can't say I don't think it's a *little* bizarre, but I wish I had got to talk to him more: I doubt I'll ever meet anyone quite like that again.

Spreading knowledge of God is a noble and compassionate task because faith in God is associated with God's acceptance and mercy

People who try to spread faith believe they want to offer compassion and the way they get a promising future

But not everyone is in reality, there are different ideas and everyone is trying to spread his idea

The future is lost in choice, and the reality and the truth of God under investigation
