Trump Admits that He Fired Comey Because of Russia

Did Trump admit that he fired Comey to relieve pressure over the Russia Investigation?

Did Trump finally admit that he fired Comey because of his frustration with the Russia investigation? And, did he also admit that he thought firing Comey would relieve the pressure from the investigation?

I admit, I am hesitant to even think Trump would be that dumb. But, the recent alleged statement from Trump and Spicey's almost confirmation of that comment seem to back it up.

From Trump hit by twin Russia bombshells as he departs for foreign trip

“I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Trump said, according to the Times. “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”

White House press secretary Sean Spicer offered a statement that did not dispute Trump’s quotes and instead presented them as the president talking frankly about the “pressure” Comey had put on Trump’s diplomatic responsibilities.

He also attacked the leaks coming out of the U.S. government.

"The President has always emphasized the importance of making deals with Russia as it relates to Syria, Ukraine, defeating ISIS and other key issues for the benefit and safety of the American people. By grandstanding and politicizing the investigation into Russia's actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russia,” Spicer said in the statement.

PLEASE DON'T RESORT TO CALLING POLITICO OR THE NYT "FAKE NEWS" AS YOUR ARGUMENT (WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT). IF YOU THINK IT IS A COMPLETELY FABRICATED STORY, PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY AND EXPLAIN SPICER'S COMMENT ABOUT IT. THANK YOU.

He didn't say he fired him over Russia, He said Comey was a "nutjob" and firing him had the unintended benefit of relieving pressure over Russia. Does anyone want a "nutjob" as the head of the FBI?

He said it, just not in so many words.

And it's rather funny how Comey wasn't a "nutjob" when the FBI was investigating Clinton for the second time...

In this context, "nutjob" is a synonym for 'an inconvenience to Trump'. This might not have happened if the latter had any respect or understanding of checks & balances.

Checks and balances are put in place to be unavoidable. If you can just fire someone it's not one of the checks and balances.

Do you think Comey is a nutjob?
Do you think "relieving pressure over Russia" was "unintended".

I don't believe either one. Frankly, it sounds somewhere between gullibility and willful ignorance to me. Given Trump's history of self serving lies and all.

What he actually meant can be debated. In regards to this whole fiasco, I am waiting on the investigation to be over. Not looking good for Trump and the boys so far.

Trump's not a liar in my book. There are those like Obama, who's words strain out a gnats, but then Isis grows like a camel on morning grass. Trump, though his words don't strain out gnats, will take care of the larger issues. As someone who believes 9/11 was an inside job, yes I believe Comey deserves to be fired.

Obviously they didn't, so, thankfully, Hillary is still living in NY instead of DC.
I am still salty my candidate didn't win...

I don't think it's "fake news," but merely repeating what amounts to rumor and speculation doesn't really give us anything solid to go on.

Dude was bragging to Russians that he fired the person leading an unpleasant investigation about him and his administration. You know Trump thought this would get him brownie points, like "See? I am strong and powerful like Putin. I make my political enemies disappear." And the Russians were probably like "lol, you serious?"

That really doesn't fit in terms of actions that preceded it. By simply connecting the dots in a logical manner, I don't doubt for one minute that the firing was mainly about the Russian connection.

Trump's not a liar in my book.
I don't call him a "liar" like Lindsey Graham, Bobby Jindal, and some others have, but he certainly is seriously truth-challenged.

Fatalist. Christian. Pacifist.
Funny. The guy can admit firing Comey on TV, because "this Russia thing, with Trump and Russia" and it still doesn't insult his voters' intelligence.

At least with Hillary, enough of the Democratic base decided not to settle for BS, or perpetuating that cycle.

Something like that. I think he just tries to be funny.
