"Donald Trump has a bully's sense of humor; he can laugh at everyone but himself"

A quote from the estimable, always insightful, nearly infallible, good-looking, big schlonged (three fulsome inches!) Sunstone.

Any truth to that quote about Trump? Why or why not?

Please note: The poll has no options for "don't know". That's intentional. This is one time that I'm actually not interested in how many of us don't know the answer to something. If you don't know, or have no opinion, please don't feel obligated to vote.

I don't listen to his speeches so I did a search, & found.....

I don't know what a Twisted Sister is, but this guy from it held forth on The Donald.....
Did the show change your perception of Donald Trump as a person?
Totally. This may be an image killer for him, but every person in the cast will tell you that he is gracious, welcoming, considerate and self-deprecating. He jokes about his hair and his assets when the camera is off. He has his persona, but it definitely changed my opinion of him.

What about when he says insane stuff like "the Obama birth certificate is fake"?
I don't agree with him on that. I said I have a different opinion of him, but I don't agree with his politics.

Do you think he's believes crazy stuff like that, or he just wants attention?
In his own way, he is the P.T. Barnum of his day. It is no coincidence that he is talking about possibly running for president at the time that we're announcing the launch of the Celebrity Apprentice. It's not a coincidence. Saying sensational things like "President Obama sucks," knowing at the same time that he wants people to lock up their TiVos.

I'm sure it was written in the tv contract that you aren't EVER allowed to say anything bad about the Donald forever and ever until all eternity ends. Nice try, Rev. :D
A conspiracy, eh?
Of course!
Now that you mention it, tis obvious.

I wonder if Trump has such a great sense of humor about himself, why he reserves it for the back stages?
You'd have to ask him to be sure.
But I suspect that he found a winning formula for campaigning, & doesn't want to fix what ain't broke.

Are you suggesting he doesn't go public with his alleged self deprecating sense of humor because it would hurt his campaign? It sounds pretty thin to me that a bit of publicly laughing at himself would hurt his chances.

Then again, maybe you're right. Maybe Trump doesn't trust his followers to adore him nearly enough if and when he were to show a bit of humor at his own expense, rather than at the expense of others.

Or perhaps he senses that making fun of oneself often sounds incongruous when it comes next to verbally abusing others.

Trump can't even handle someone saying he has small hands.

He's so insecure about his hands that he had to come back with a penis comparison. How juvenile is that?

I think it's reasonable to heavily discount the tales told of Trump being a back stage comedian, given that he's so thin-skinned in public he can't manage comments about the size of his hands.

Serious unshakable hat on for work ?

I don't know of any authoritarian leaders who have publicly shown a self-deprecating sense of humor. Do you?

Have you ever heard an account of Franco, Idi Amin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin, Mussolini, or some other authoritarian telling a joke on themselves in public? All I've ever heard are accounts of their using humor to demean and bully people.

Twisted Sister's most well known songs are We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock. And Dee Snider hardcore ripped on Tipper Gore in a Senate hearing (or maybe not quite a Senate hearing, but it was some official business and he humiliated her).

Snider's "report" of Trump's self-deprecating humor is merely unsupported hearsay. But I don't doubt his word alone is sufficient to convince Trump defenders that the man is all heart.

Yes, he is a definite bully.
When I was in school, had a lot of trouble managing my anger.
I beat the hell out of bullies, despite being a fairly small kid.
Sometimes, a part of me wants to go ballistic on Trump in the same fashion.

No kidding? I know just how you felt about bullies. My best friend growing up and I were the same way. I was tall for my age (and could beat up even some of the seniors when I was just a freshman), but he wasn't. He was just average height and weight. Yet I once saw him get so angry he picked up a huge guy and threw him across a room with enough force to leave a dent in some lockers -- all because the guy was picking on a much smaller kid. That bully, by the way, had the nickname of "Moby" -- after the whale.

Did you watch Celebrity Apprentice at all? You know that Trump fires someone at the end of every episode, right?

I have no doubt whatsoever that it's written in each celebrity's contract that they aren't allowed to say anything negative about the show or Donald Trump. Makes sense, if you think about it.

Reminded me of someone I know.

In high school he got picked on a lot.

He wasn't small, in fact he was on the tall and husky side, but he was very laid back, and pretty much a gamer/nerd.

He told the school about the bullying, - and they did nothing.

Then one day he had enough. He just picked the main bully up off the floor, and dangled him - screaming - from the second story balcony.

The result was that kid learned to stay away from gentle giants. LOL! :D

Wow, that's crazy! I had mixed results.
I won more than I lost though, I think because they were so stunned that some short, quiet kid would take them on.
I was known for being a bit crazy, and I was very strong when I had my adrenaline pumping.

I took a few different bullies down a peg during my school days. lol
