I suspect that if he is found unfit to hold the Presidency, he will be unfit to stand trial.

I think to be unfit to stand trial it needs to be after a clinical diagnosis. That isn't needed for a political office, just an inability to perform duties.

But, I'm sure they will protect the disturbed figurehead.

The republicans will fight to keep him in there, even if he is unfit because they fear the wrath of his supporters. Trump could show up for a news conference in a tutu and they will all applaud. Especially now. They will never declare him unfit. Kissing his butt is their 'golden ticket' in politics.
