Trump Plans Mars Colony With Musk

Will Trump try to stage an insurrection against Martian leaders?
One person said we must send men to Mars
because we'll get advanced alien technology.
But maybe we need to launch a pre-emptive
attack on the Martians.

Send Slim Whitman to sing "Indian Love Call".
That is some deadly yodling!

I get it. You hate Trump and yes he says a lot of stupid things. But why squash striving for greatness.

When I see solid plans for something that's actually sound that can be put into motion then I will start paying actual attention. Until then, if someone demonstrates that they are a scammer, why would I believe them when they promise me something? I'm good on that - especially when we are talking about the money and resources it would require to achieve the goal

Are you against pace exploration and development generally, or just when it involves Trump and Musk?

I strongly support space research and am aware that it has provided many scientific and technological benefits to humanity, but I don't think a "Mars colony" will be feasible anytime in the next few decades, if ever. Humanity can't even run the countries we have on this planet without severely trashing the environment, increasingly making the climate less habitable and hospitable to us and other species, and going to war with each other over various issues.

I just don't see colonization of Mars working out. It seems to me a pie-in-the-sky (no pun intended) endeavor with much more talk and PR than actual substance to back it up. Those resources could instead be used either for realistic space research or for trying to mitigate the effects of the ongoing climate crisis on this planet, among many other possible uses.

It's an absolute nonsense. Not only is there no breathable atmosphere on Mars, there's no electromagnetic field to protect astronauts from solar radiation. Astronauts on the International Space Station are subjected to radiation far higher than on the surface of the earth, and the effects on their bodies after long periods (340 days in the case of Scott Kelly and Mikhael Kornienko) are still being investigated, but the ISS lies within the earth's electromagnetic field. A journey to Mars and back would involve years of exposure to potentially very high levels of radiation.

This bromance is bad for the country.

Donald Trump has vowed to reach Mars if he wins the presidential campaign.

The orange manbaby, 78, wants the US to reach the Red Planet “by the end of my term”. He also wants there to be “great military protection in space”.

The Republican presidential candidate said he will “talk” to SpaceX boss Elon Musk about getting the mission going. He told supporters in North Carolina: “We want to reach Mars by the end of my term.

They just need to get Matt Damon on board, he being the Martian expert.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I am all for the exploration of space and I don't see why this is even a weird topic but apparently it is.

It may be possible to shorten a journey to Mars to 4 months inside of that timeframe. Four is about what can be managed. The associated problems are cosmic rays and low gravity, however experiments on the ISS have shown that these can be managed.

Arriving on Mars the first thing to do will be to dig under the regolith by several meters to protect against cosmic rays. Alternately they could pile regolith upon living structures. They should send ahead machines to help with that before the humans arrive. Several kinds of supplies should be put into place, first.

When the humans arrive there are several things they ought to do. They should study Titan, possibly with a side trip to Titan or sending probes to Titan. They should bring equipment to excavate while living underground. They should establish multiple forms of power generation. They should work to create a workshop that can manufacture parts and process raw materials.

Let me guess: Mexico will pay for it. Or is he inventing some other tall tale this time?

Did he say he has aspirations of a concept for a plan of possible implementation?

When do they leave? Not soon enough.
