Trump promises.

How many Canadias are bankrupted by medical expenses?
Some, I'm sure. I have no idea how people can afford things like inhalers that are hundreds of dollars every month or cancer medications. I mean, they're cheaper here, but not free.

I was kind of getting at the rest of the post though. We've got a homelessness problem with tent cities popping up everywhere (I've got one down the street from me in the park), we've got super high housing and education costs, we also have to work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet. It's not just an American thing.

I think the bible often talked about a satisfied poor person vs. a flustered, angry rich person.. if I recall. Seems like there were some lines in there about how it's better to be poor, if you have less problems.. better to eat in peace than to eat with people that are angry, or something
The Bible says in several places that it's easier for a camel to pass through a needle's eye than for a rich man to get into Heaven -- yet we still covet money and power.
Hypocrisy?

Trump promised that he would get rid of tax on overtime. He said it himself!

What else did he promise? I want to have a thread to reference his campaign promises. Think he’ll follow through with his promises?

- He will end the war in Ukraine in one day.

- No taxes on overtime or tips.

So far sounds good. What else did that feller promise us?
Here is Trumps campaign promises.

I believe he promised to "make America great again." Good luck with that one.

However, there might be a way. All they have to do is change the name of the country to "Great America." That way, America could become officially "great," even if in name only. Americans could go to other countries and when asked what their nationality is, they can proudly say "I'm a Great American!"
I expect that it will be as it was in 2016. US Americans abroad will say that they are Canadians.

It's not impossible, as it requires transformation. A camel can pass through the eye of a needle: thence it becomes John the Baptist's camel hair vest. Occasionally, God favors kings, if they transform themselves into humble and productive people

At different times:

Build a "great wall" -- and Make Mexico pay for it.
"Repeal Obamacare and replace it with something much better."
"Renegotiate the disaster known as NAFTA."
Drain the swamp in Washington.
Implement massive deportations.
Move US embassy to Jerusalem.
Terminate DACA.
Pull out of Paris climate accord.
Impose tariffs on foreign imports.
Grow the economy by 4%.
Restore manufacturing in the US.
End abortion/overturn Roe vs Wade
Resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Expand oil drilling and fracking.
Tax cuts.
Corporate deregulation.
Cut climate and pollution restrictions.
Withdraw from
Pardon Jan. 6th rioters.

Some accomplished, some partially accomplished. Most not accomplished.

He promises a big birthday party for all of America on the 250th year of our independence! It’ll be the greatest one ever he says!

A year of festivities he says! I can get behind this! Give them bread and colosseums or something like that, right?

Trump would be the kind of guy to come up with this idea.

Panem et circenses, usually translated as bread and circuses, in German it's bread and games. Better would be bread and entertainment or bread and distraction. The idea is that people who have a full stomach and something that prevents them from thinking about their condition, don't revolt.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

I'm good with it. Looking foreward to see how well it goes.

I still consider it a win however if my life gets any better then it is with today's mess.

Well, if you want a colosseum, I suppose Trump would be the one to build it.
...as far as managing it, though....

Or perhaps they are a realist?

There were times in my (feels like ancient) past where I was depressed and did not give a **** anymore. I was lucky in that I had a loving family and a few good friends- all of whom did care about me. It breaks my heart to know that there are many people out there who do not have that kind of support.

Yad Vashem is a powerful, painful, and brilliantly designed experience. One walks through display afer display on the most depraved monuments to perceived self interest and indifference. But then one reaches an area dedicated to the righteous among nations. These are the people I value. You be you.
that's interesting and it seems important, but while I think that remembering the good for why they were good is important, I also think it's important that all the nations learn to live in balance with each other in the present, and into the future. God created us all, and it looks like he wants us to assemble or maintain a harmony, with the raw material he created.

Bye bye climate initiatives then.

^^Yep

It is because I mainly vote based on who will best protect Creation (the Ds suck but are still much better than the Rs) that I voted for Harris. As I have mentioned before, Trump has been and will be the absolute worst President for the natural world in the last century and it was huge mistake for the DNC to never (that I noticed) mention the importance of land conservation, protection of endangered species, etc. Nope, just blah blah blah more protection for expanded abortion rights and warnings about the threat of fascism (some legit concern on the latter).

I have old and very dear friends who are MAGA. Guess what - several are tree-huggers like me.

Let's stop talking past each other.

You haven't been to our cities lately. There are beggars prowling parking lots, storefronts, and intersections and many streets are lined with tents.
It takes two jobs to maintain a middle class lifestyle, houses and higher education are becoming unaffordable, and many are just one medical bill, car accident or rent increase away from homlessness.

It's hard out there brother, for far too many people. I help out as I can but it is overwhelming.

I feel compelled (hey, I am a retired educator) to include the following link, as I would bet many here do not know exactly what you are referring to:

'a memorial and a name'

They might still have to show their passport on some occasions, and then they would be found out.

It doesn't sound that easy to impersonate a Canadian. I might make a mistake.
