Trump protesters plan to build ‘tea party of the left’

Seems a very positive development, I hope it brings about change in the American political establishment. That's what this current period is largely about, it seems, and I tend to think it'll turn out positively in the end.

Although I think that people shouldn't put on the brakes on BLM or Occupy due to shifting into electoral politics - it's helpful to keep a strong force outside it going.

How much impact did the Republican Tea Party have on the Republican Party?
It was good until the Social Conservatives hijacked it for Social Agenda. Their doing so repelled me away from the GOP.

They'll be pulling tea out of the harbor saying Tax us King George, we love big govenment so much. It seems to have backfired. Tax us more so big government can fix the problem of big government.

Yes, I also enthusiastically encourage this 'way forward' for the left!

the public has spoken in this election and clearly they are crying out for more taxation, more power and corruption in Washington, less freedoms for private citizens

Also I encourage them to recruit more celebrities, college professors, and protesting students- accusing everyone else of being idoits and bigots, that really really appeals to the average Joe!

more of Al Gore and Michael Moore also, they are hugely respected by Americans, you can't fail with this strategy- keep going with it please!

In general, the country has prospered whenever there was a radical, politically active Progressive wing. The more activism the better in my opinion, and **** diplomacy. The enemies of tolerance and equity have taken over all three branches of government; this is no time for making concessions or soothing the hurt feelings of the powerful. It's not like under Obama, where he could be graceful and throw bones to the Right in misguided hope of renewed cooperation, knowing that ultimately his veto could fix anything too monstrous they came up with in response. Any advantage ceded to the fascists now can easily become an unjust law that will take generations to fix, or an environmental policy that cannot be fixed at all. To the mattresses, Left! Be compassionate, yes, but cede no ground.

So this is a valid strategy for bringing about change in the Democratic Party?

It is a bit odd to genuine leftists that the mildly socially progressive capitalists of the Democratic Party and their affiliates have become 'the left' in modern American discourse.

Quite a bit. They achieved much of their impact by successfully opposing moderate Republicans in the primaries. Thus, anyone who was willing to compromise with the Democrats was eliminated.

Why is is a bad idea.
Because pure obstructionism is not good for America. I prefer Bernie approach work with him when he does good for the average American and fight him And Congress when they try to do things that hurt him.

We don't need more partisan divide we need less

I don't really associate the radical left with pure obstructionism - Yes, they want the "establishment" Democrats out and the progressives in, and we can and should utterly block bad law, certainly, or executive orders designed to degrade the rights of citizens. Anyone who chooses to remain mute or impotent in the face of evil is as much an "obstruction" as a conservative in the same seat. But a "tea party of the left" is never going to just sit and refuse to simply govern the way the conservative dissidents has done - inaction is not what we are fighting for. Unlike the Tea Party of the Right (as it were) we have a game plan for what to do once the tea is overboard. The people who we want in office are those who won't just sit and twiddle their thumbs once they get there.
