Trump just now signed an executive order! It just came as a flash notification to my Smartphone from Russia Today News.

"With a stroke of a pen, President Donald Trump has unraveled the Trans-Pacific Partnership, withdrawing the US from the controversial free-trade pac"

Hallelujah Trump!

More details should follow.

This was an issue Bernie brought up as well and Hillary ended up taking. So this has bipartisan support

To be fair, no one else is either. The shadow government was sneaking around in rooms making shady deals and the TPP was going to be passed sealed. :D Nothing is good when they're trying to hide it THAT well.

If you can read this, you are as lucky as I am.
I am a little disappointed that we won't see the provisions on basic worker rights implemented in these deals, as well as regulations discouraging the practice of human trafficing, but I'm content with it otherwise.

The Rebublicans should've worked hard to pas this through quickly. It's pro-business, so it's going to hurt that constituency most of all.

Overall, glad it's dead.

Hate to burst bubbles, but it's a sign that nothing is changing because Republicans weren't going to budge on this one, and much like Obama, an executive order is his only option. It's not a good precedence being established.

#1 Thing that already changed, he nixed the Obamacare penalty... I have yet to see how far that goes, but I think that is important.

It's also peculiar because in this instance, Trump is not getting what Milton termed the "honeymoon phase" of the newly elected president.

Trump also blocked funding to any NGOs abroad that provide abortions, and put a freeze on non-military federal hiring.
So, he pulls out TPP, which overall is good even though he didn't keep the parts about labor or copyright protections (something that really is needed against China), hurts groups that actually do work towards trying to fix the messes everybody else causes because they provide those "evil abortions," and people who were looking at employment now hit a dead end.

Good. Lots of people here opposed it for various reasons. Mostly left-wing and right-wing activists.

yeah, and that's something I wish the marches and protest were more aware of the biggest threat is Congress

After reading up a bit, the TPP was never in action, right? That was upcoming in 2018? So... in short, this has no immediate effect?

So does this mean that the entire pacific rim (and possibly island nations) will be in a trading block that excludes the U.S.??? How is that favorable to us?

TPP is dead without US. Japan has said that TPP "is meaningless without US" but has indicated that it will continue to advocate for Free Trade and persuade Trump to change his mind.
