Trump To Legalize Marijuana?

But, currently, it is illegal federally, meaning that, technically, it is illegal in every state medically and recreationally. So, without action from the federal government, states will not have any authority (again technically speaking) to make it legal in any form.
But the states are acquiring de facto authority....just not de jure.
Under Obama, the fed tacitly accepted a certain level of commerce.
It became questionable under Trump because of Sessions's stance.
But this appears to be changing to being even more liberal under Trump.

I wondered that myself. However, considering they will just believe anything he says anyway, if he does it, then it's good in their minds too. Win-win. :)

Yeah, the fact that they've turned a blind eye to his sleazy, adulterous, philandering history is probably a good indication that they'll again perform mental gymnastics to give it a pass if Trump were to allow the legalization of cannabis.

Does Trump have this power? Has schoolhouse rock mislead me?
Power is not absolute, but he does have....
The bully pulpit
Signing power
Veto power
I think it is very likely a bill will get through the house, I am not so sure it will get through the senate. But we will see.
I'll take this rare opportunity to agree with you.

I don't think he has the sense to do something this smart, but it would be great for the US. There is so much money being spent and not taxed at all. The marijuana industry is ready to blossom, providing jobs and capital for other investment in addition to tax revenue. And, legalization is not going to make marijuana easier to get. If anything it will be harder. I remember in high school, pot was a lot easier to get than alcohol. With alcohol you needed a fake ID. With pot, you just had to walk down the hallway.
That and the fact that marijuana production will finally be subject to some much-needed regulation. You won't have to worry about people lacing marijuana products with things like synthetic fentanyl--at my university, one of the student dormitories alone has about 5 or 6 overdoses a week due to people smoking fentanyl-laced weed.

I didn't suggest that he was a libertarian. I'm just saying that the arguments for cannabis legalization tend to be libertarian in nature. Regardless, a conservative or liberal deviating on a single issue doesn't instantly fling them to the opposite corner of the political spectrum.

I'm not so sure it would negatively affect his chance of reelection. For example; This year in Oklahoma (which is a heavily Republican state) we passed medical cannabis by a landslide.

He could always use decentralization and passing responsibility on to the states as a rationale.
