I have disagreed with politicians from time to time. Yet I have have never wished any of them to contract a deadly disease.

Maybe if you could look past whatever your political opinion is you could see another human being got sick and needs empathy.

I never made that claim.
But the difference between wanting someone dead & being happy
someone has a deadly disease doesn't seem all that significant.

The question is still whether Trump actually has COVID. Perhaps he only got the sniffles.
He is now (as of this morning) asserting that he is feeling much better and [quoting loosely] "people are saying it's a miracle from God".

The general consensus: he/she didn't wear a masks=she has COVID which ignores other factors that contribute to COVID symptoms. Are there symptoms of COVID that's unique to other coronavirus illnesses? (not the cause just the symptoms)

Yes. The general consensus (generalizing on purpose) is if someone doesn't wear a mask and they get sick, they have COVID.

I know this question wasn’t directed at me, but I’d like to answer: yes. I am against anyone getting COVID. Including Trump.
And that is exactly why Trump must no longer be President. I hope he recovers in time to be decisively rebuked and defeated.

No matter, I’ve no reason to doubt the poll.
I do not agree with people feeling “happy” about someone getting an illness. At the same time, feelings of sadness and happiness aren’t going to affect the reality of the virus. Social distancing and mask wearing might.
It is impossible to reflect on Trump’s illness without acknowledging how the President and 90% of Republicans who support him have been undermining public health and exacerbating the problem. I suspect some of the 40% of Dems are “happy” that this might make more Americans take the virus more seriously so we can reopen sooner and have fewer casualties. And vote for Biden - for the same reason. That’s the only part of this horrible dark comedy I’m cautiously optimistic about (I won’t say “happy”).
