Trust in the news media

The "news" has gone back to being more partisan than it was in the 50's and 60's.

The BBC because they're reporting on the US. Public TV and radio because they don't sensationalize.

Personally I find this chart accurate. Somewhat recently I added "The Hill" to my Flipboard list of outlets so I'd be exposed to a 'skew's right' outlet.

LOL... I find the chart "skewed". CNN just to the left of Neutral?

I'm with ya on the top two sentences but have to wonder which "liberal socialist" media is "marxist" that you cite in the last sentence?

OK, let's compromise: if you call one or more on the left "marxist", can I call one or more on the right "fascist"? :D
HHAHAHAHA Metis.

Yes... call the one on the far right "fascist"... it gives it emphasis even if it metaphorical as did mine. You may be aged, but you are still SHARP!

Only 28% of people in the UK believe consistently what the news channels are telling them and trust in the BBC has fallen by 20% since 2018 alone.

Trust in politicians has fallen very heavily.

Trust depends on the person; however, no one should trust one source of information. You need to verify anything you want to consider truth otherwise it is just a belief.

Funny thing that. Many times trying to verify the information the multiple sources often rely on the same single source themselves. Good idea but dang, a lot of effort to find that they are all relying on the same source. Often that source ends up being more derived opinion than fact.

I was going to argue with it but the latest chart show CNN has moved to the left quite a bit so maybe more accurate than I thought.

I don't find it that hard. I guess it's all about if you want truth or just confirmation and ease.

This is an example of the standard that is now expected from Channel 4 News.

A London activist has been involved in an unfortunate moment on live TV, claiming she'd never "personally met" former UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Mr Churchill, best known for leading the UK to victory in World War II, died in 1965.

However the former PM has been in the news recently after a statue of him in London was repeatedly defaced by Black Lives Matter protesters.

In an interview on Channel 4 News yesterday, Lambeth Independent Police Advisory Group chair and community activist Lorraine Jones said she wasn’t sure if the statue of Mr Churchill should stay.

The obvious awkward moment is that Mr Churchill passed away more than 50 years ago.

“I’ve heard many arguments on both sides. Some say that he’s a racist. Some say that he’s a hero," Ms Jones said.

“I haven’t personally met him.

“But what I would say is that that question of whether he should remain should be put to the community.”

How is the news media generally perceived in your country? Is it generally trusted? Has there been much change in this in the last few years? Why?

And, as an individual, given your political affiliation, which sources do you trust?
I don't trust the news media anymore than I can throw them.

Truth be told the only one I actually have some respect for is Reuters.

Well Farage and Trump have aided all this, as soon as they open their mouths we are suspicious. :D

But, to be serious, it is usually down to that - it all depends upon what is presented and how - since one can usually detect the experts (or supposed) from the frauds or just opinionated.

There is nothing wrong with being suspicious. It is highly recommended.

This is how the BBC intends to tackle their impartially - If even the BBC’s ‘bias investigator’ is biased, it's time they admitted what they are: A British CNN | Infosurhoy

It's not as unbiased and trustworthy as it was in my country. Our main issue isn't so much around government interference as it is around monopolisation of media, and the subsequent reduction in the spread of opinion and information.

The government channels (ABC and SBS) are generally very good for news reporting. Their satire and current affairs are more left leaning, though.
There are also some lesser known outlets. One interesting one worth mentioning is
The Conversation: In-depth analysis, research, news and ideas from leading academics and researchers.

It started in Australia, but now has editions dedicated to various spots around the world, including the US and UK. It's an independent, not for profit news source.

The Conversation - Media Bias/Fact Check

Looks good, I've bookmarked it.

What a failure on proper education.
