Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is the first Hindu ever elected into the U.S. House of Representatives. Tulsi chose to be sworn into office on the Bhagavad Gita in January 2013. She is currently a Captain in the Hawaii National Guard. Tulsi has been serving her state and country for more than a decade. An advocate for environmental policy, Tulsi ran for the Hawai'i State Legislature in 2002 and became the youngest person ever elected. A year later, Tulsi joined the Hawai'i National Guard. During her deployment to Iraq and the Middle East in 2004, Tulsi received multiple awards and recognition.Tulsi was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal during Operation Iraqi Freedom, was the first female Distinguished Honor Graduate at Fort McClellan's Officer Candidate School, and was the first woman to ever receive an award of appreciation from the Kuwaiti military on her second overseas tour.

Milpitas is in Northern CA Bay Area in the Silicon Valley. Big IT area. If you do come up from LA, also take time to visit some of the temples here, and a must is the Shiva Murugan Temple in Concord CA. BAPS is very close to the community center in Milpitas also. There are lots of temples nearby in Fremont as well. Om Namah Sivaya

Oh I live farther then the LA area. Ever heard of Riverside county? yeah there. Silicon valley is far. Getting there may be hard considering I think I have college that time

I used to live in San Francisco, now I am in Santa Rosa.

I would love to come...it's the day before my birthday and I was planning on a sweet bday kirtan event, this would be pretty cool though.

Currently, I am looking for a way to celebrate Janmashtami, I may request off of work to go into SF for that, see what BAPS or ISKCON has going on as a program for that day.
