Twilight vs Harry Potter

Twlight is simply not well-written or well-developed. The characters are disturbing in all the wrong ways, the plot is predictable and unsubtle.

HP isn't quite my cup of tea either, but it has much, much better concept, characterization, development and plotting. As Riverwolf said, it is not fair to compare the two.

Far as I can tell, Twilight appeals to the fantasies of young adolescent women in a powerful way (being misunderstood about the importance of one's attractions, having a secret link to a more exciting and romantic life, heck, even having a sort-of-sweet-even-if-ugly-stalker) and that is the sole reason why it is at all successful.

And really, I can't for the life of me understand why Edward had to be played by such an unappealing actor.

I've seen the first two twilight movies  - i gave the second a go since I do quite like vampire movies and the fact that I borrowed the dvd's for free of my sister mitigates the time lost to my life in the watching of them.

+1 for Harry Potter,

-9999999999^9999999 for the tripe that is twilight.

The Porkies movies have more substance that twilight.

I didn't read any of the books, but I've seen the movies (except for the newest Twilight).

Harry Potter is pretty good. I like the characters, the story, etc. It's not my favorite, but it's entertaining. I like how the author matured the story along with her audience. I liked the first movie, but if I were to watch it now it wouldn't be able to hold my interest. But later movies deal with darker concepts and scenes, apparently because the author realized that the same people that got involved in her story are going to be the ones wanting to see how it ends, so it has to age with them.

Twilight is pretty bad. The basic premise is kind of hot, but then everything else just seems lame.

And this is funny. (But has some adult language.)

I was totally disapointed by the last HP movie.
Lots of important things left out, instead losts of "teenage in love".
And worst: The did not show enough of Severus Snape. :hearts:

I'm a little OCD so when I read the first book in the series I had to read the rest of them. (My sister bought the first book for me so I had to buy the rest) While reading the book Edward was a hell of a lot cuter in my mind then he was in the movie. I agree with you 100% they needed to pick some other actor for Edward. The movies ruined the book (Not that they were even THAT good. Like I said a little OCD)

I like the Harry Potter series better.

Cause when you boil the Twilight series down to its essence you merely have a story about a girls indecision between necrophilia and bestiality.

I actually think that the movies are better. At least they TRY to have real conflicts and plots.

I hate twilight with a passion far greater than I have ever hated any other series in my life. As such if i really let myself go I could easily rant about it for hours. Hell I could write a book about how much twilight sucks that would be longer than all the books put together and STILL only be halfway through pointing out everything terrible in it. Suffice to say Twilight is horribly written, has no plot, no character development, a lead character who is vapid at best and a manipulative, manic deppresive **** at worst who's dating an emotionally abusive, controling stalker of a boyfriend. The characters have no real personalities, they simply exhibit whatever mental neurosis the author felt was best for the chapter at hand. There is no plot whatsoever in the first book and the only reason the second book has any plot whatsoever is simply because the author directly rips off romeo and juliet.

I better stop now or this post will go on forever. Suffice to say the two series aren't even in the same ball park. To compare them goes beyond being unfair. Personally I find comparing the two to be an insult to rowling's work and the harry potter series. To try and compare the two would be like comparing The original Star Wars trilogy to Plan 9 from outer space. It just doesn't work.(in fact I wouldn't be surprised if Plan 9 was better than twilight)

Well, I have never read the Twilight series, but I have read all of the Harry Potter books and seen the movies to date.

I was sitting with a friend in a movie and a Twilight trailer came on (I can't remember for which one. The newest one?). There were these awesome werewolves and these awesome vampires gonna battle. Then we realized it was Twilight. Then we both agreed it would be a better movie/book if it was just werewolves and vampires in one big epic war against each other. We would also like to see the including of zombies (preferably of the Nazi variety), but beggars cannot be choosers I suppose.

Have you seen Underworld? Epic werewolf/vampire movie with a sequel.

That being said, I have read and seen all Harry Potter and twilight movies and books.
Harry Potter I loved, understood would highly recommend.
Twilight....It was nothing more than a teen harlequin with a horrible mythology.

A vampire male and human female can breed, but a female vamp and human male can't. Not only that but the off-spring of said male vamp/female human has an accelerated growth rate (7 yrs) to adulthood then it stops and the live forever.

After this, you got the kids themselves. the half vamp male's venom is poisonous while the female's is not.

I find Twilight better, though, probably because I love romance :)
But they are both really great. Just depends on what concept you're more interested n.

Oh, dear. MoonWater's found this thread. Those who love Twilight, those who think it's okay, and those who manage to tolerate it... run for the hills. :run:

(btw, yeah. Plan 9 is better than Twilight)

Underworld's alright, but it lacks any real comic relief, which makes it too depressing, IMO.

But it's way better than Twilight, that's for sure.

Honestly though I think I really only have two gripes with the series that are bigger than any of my other gripes. The fact that so many people try to claim it as a well written masterpiece of fiction simply because they happen to enjoy it(Just because you like something doesn't mean it's well done from a critical standpoint... and yes I know what I'm talking about, I'm a writer myself who has been studying the craft and writing stories and poetry since middle school...Which is more than can be said of Ms. Meyer) And the fact that the series had potential to be a decent supernatural romance that paid homage to romeo and juliet. Seriously if Meyer had taken the time to flush out the story, come up with an actual plot, cut out the fluff, and develope the characters instead of tossing out a half-hearted barely qualifies as a treatment let alone a rough draft story, it could have actually been pretty good. It's clear from her writing that she has the potential, she just didn't take the time to study or learn the craft of creative writing before releasing the series. And I think that's the real kicker, to quote The Spoony One from his Privateer 2 review "not only is it lousy, it's lazy". This series is popular and yet she put very little time and effort into the series. I mean she wrote the first book in only 3 months on a whim when she had never before written so much as a short story in her life. It would be like trying to put the lord of the rings movies together in one year instead of 5 and putting Uwe Bowl at the helm rather than Peter Jackson. It just doesn't work.

Def HP. I wld not like Twilight at all if it wasnt for the wolves. They're the ones who bring the most action! If it was just a romance then i wldnt care for it. HP has the excitment, the juicy plot, the twist in your stomache thinking 'are they going to make it?',and above all the magic.
