Twitter ~ Do you use it?

Out of curiosity:

Do you have a Twitter account? Have you found it to be of benefit, or has it become just one more reason to log on when you probably have other things to do offline? :D

If you don't have an account, are you avoiding it so that you don't get sucked into another social networking site (you are smarter than I)? Do you not see the point of it all (think it's kind of dopey)? Or do you just not care?

I ignored it for a while until someone I admire started tweeting ~ then I signed up to follow her. Now my page is a quick glimpse into my interests, complete with exercise, cooking, knitting, quilting, and articles/thoughts from a Buddhist perspective.

I didn't think I'd use it much, but it turns out it's a nice way to get selected information fast. It's also funny getting tweets from my teen, who is usually one room away from me at the time. :p She could just call over her shoulder, but what's the fun in that?

Nope.

I have MySpace and Facebook but I don't even go on those much. Too hard to keep up with social crowd.

No. I think it's stupid. I don't have the time to tweet peeps constantly about the stupid little things that go on in my life. Running to the store, smoking a cigarette, blah, blah, blah...who cares?

+1

I never really had much of a life though so might have something to do with it. I always thought if you're going to make a public diary, at least come up with some good stories that're funny, shocking, surprising...you know entertaining. This is why I keep all my diaries private because no one's going to give a ****unless they're that bored.

Oh and I have ADHD which makes it more difficult to keep up with everyone's lives.

Done here.
I signed up for Twitter last year because I was having trouble updating my Facebook status from my phone, but I could update it via Twitter. I used it when I was traveling alone, mainly so my friends and family would know when I had arrived at each destination. I haven't used it since.

I've got a Twitter account. I like it.

I think it can be fun to get the odd funny/useful thing from friends or celebrities I like, but I've found that the real strength comes when it comes to events.

For instance, I'm into motorsports. One of the things that's been happening more and more these days is that at car rallies, the competing teams will Tweet updates straight from the event. With Twitter, suddenly I'm tied into all the news updates, scores, and even photos and video and can cyberspectate to my heart's content.

And with hashtags, I can get updates even from people I don't follow. Every race has its own hashtag, so I just search for that and I'll get the one relevant tweet (and only that tweet) from someone I don't know and would normally not be interested in following.

I think the same can hold true for other sorts of events, as well as more general topics. Using hashtags, you can pull in information from across the whole internet, but filter it down to exactly what you want. In that respect, I think it's really cool.

I use twitter quite a lot. Not to see whenever a friend of mine logs into the gasstation with his iphone or when another friend tells the world he just made the biggest dump ever, but I use it to follow news items from developers and designers.
Most news will hit twitter before their official site.

Its facebook and, ehr, the other one, that I cannot find any use for..

Taking a hiatus
I have Twitter and Facebook, and downloaded the apps to my Blackberry, as I am that addicted to them - More so Twitter now though than Facebook.

I tweet a lot. It has benefited me in many ways. If you have online business why not target traffic from it?

I've got a Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter. I don't use Myspace much anymore just to see what certain people are doing. I use FB more but after I got rid of all my apps I'm not on there much anymore either. I only got a Twitter to see what it was like. I didn't like that it was just a status, I can do that on FB.

The big difference, IMO, is what I mentioned earlier: hashtags. Twitter lets you search for all posts on a topic by anyone. Also, there are some celebrities you can follow on Twitter but not on Facebook (e.g. Stan Lee!), if that's your thing.
