Two Beings...

Neo Deist

Th.D. & D.Div. h.c.
Hypothetical situation:

There are two supernatural beings, both brothers, with the oldest one being more powerful. The younger brother, who tends to walk on a shadier side of morality, likes to stir up trouble, cause mischief, and taunt the living beings in the universe. His actions cause grief, pain and even death.

The older brother, although powerful enough to prevent his younger brother from causing those negative events, chooses not to and sits on the sideline, just watching. He seems indifferent and just shrugs his shoulders when his younger brother does something wicked.

How do you feel toward each being?

There's a whole lot of trickster mythology that deals with this.

Which wolf do you feed?

The older brother, although powerful enough to prevent his younger brother from causing those negative events, chooses not to and sits on the sideline, just watching. He seems indifferent and just shrugs his shoulders when his younger brother does something wicked.

Is the older brother truly indifferent, or does he just act that way? Do they interact? Does he warn others about his brother?

How about instead of just watching, or preventing, he goes around cleaning up and fixing things after his "wicked" brother causes the damage?

As for the younger brother, does he ever get caught by someone else, tripped up in his own schemes and devices? Does he ever see or acknowledge the harms that he causes?

Sorry, I don't have enough details about what happens and their relationship to be able to form much of a response: without details, my first response would be that both are being wicked--active and passive.

Well, it sounds like the older brother is just hoping his younger will find his way through learning lessons for himself. Rather than people trying to prevent him from learning his lessons by stopping him, he takes the path of wisdom and patience.

Sounds like Thor and Loki. .......Sorry, I watched the movie last night and it kinda fits their relationship.

Thor and Loki aren't brothers; this is one of the reasons I don't like Marvel. Odin and Loki are brothers. They're both portrayed in a complex, dynamic and at times dangerous or scheming way in the lore.

I think there should be a balance with both brothers, sometimes we need to get out there and speak our mind, and other time its better to just sit back, like Demonslayer said, the second sounds like a wuss, which we certainly don't want to be.

Neither one cares about the people getting hurt.

Are these hypothetical brothers Goofus and Gallant from the old Highlights magazine?

Actually, it can be applied to the Christian concept of God and Satan, just take out the brother part. ;)
