Because a lot of those people absolutely needed that money until they got that first check (or still waiting for it).
And it's because many people, even with jobs, are still struggling due to an economic slump.

How can you keep going on about this when we know countries that complied with covid restrictions and lockdowns walked through this relatively unscathed and have already been on a track towards economic recovery long before America? Or would you rather us be more like Brazil and still being damned and condemned to suffering with it? Or like Sweden where they were more hands off and then regretted that decision later?
