UK axes support for Mediterranean migrant rescue operation | Politics | The Guardian

This is causing a lot of noise in Europe today.

Some have called the UK's prime minister everything from Satan to Hitler because he's not showing any regard for the human beings involved.

Others agree with the measure because Europe simply can't take any more immigrants and refugees. We already don't know what to do with the ones we currently have without sinking our economies further.

I like to think about people first and prioritize human rights but I can understand the UK's decision up to a certain point. Ideally we should help the countries in trouble to develop so these poor people wouldn't have the need to endanger their lives crossing the Mediterranean but that would take resources we no longer have. Can't really think of a short term solution...

exactly. our European countries are already overpopulated...and it's unsustainable to take care of all these people.
This situation is a nightmare. I have to be honest: Italy is very angry with all the European countries, because they don't help us manage these "invasions".
But I am even angrier with the Italian government because it should be more inflexible and discourage the clandestine immigration by sending these people back to their countries.

I am all for helping people, but the EUSSR's immigration and migration policies are absurd. Just look at whats happening in France and Sweden. Talk about cultural iconoclasm, self-hatred and repression.
